Sense 2 is not showing up in references as something distinct. I feel it's really just a broadening of sense 1. I think it would be better handled that way (which also brings the examples back into line.)

i think i'm okay with keeping them separate, but sense 2 should have actual translations... once those are added, the two senses will look rather different and justifiably kept apart. and the "polite set phrase..." glosses should maybe be notes?
11. A* 2021-01-29 07:52:09  Alan Cheng <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I am inclined to agree with Marcus's comment from 2018 that sense 2 could be merged into sense 1. If we leave the senses as is, though, we do need to reindex the sentences.

Does sense 2 have to be a sense separate from sense 1?
Doesn't it still mean "greet"/"salute", essentially? If
it's kept, the current gloss should be a usage note, I
think.

  Comments:
maybe without the macrons and adding the expl? 'japanese' presumably shouldn't be in quotation marks because i think this is specifically japanese and 弓術 is the general term

english wikipedia uses the macrons but i think that's only because a while back someone went through and (inappropriately, IMO) changed a huge number of Japanese language entries to make them look like foreign words (i.e., italicized) even if they have been adopted into english as loanwords. the international kyudo federation doesn't use the macrons

Perhaps that splitting went too far, although a full recombination results in a lot of restrictions. I'm putting this one back together to see how it goes. If approved 2823490 needs to be removed.

1) ~うちは~
This means "as long as the situation continues". The meaning is similar to "during that time" and "at that time". It is commonly used when comparing that situation and the situation after that.
若いうちは何でもすぐ覚えられるけど、年をとるとなかなか覚えられなくなる。

2) ~うちに~
This form is commonly used when suggesting what one should do while a favorable situation exists or before it ends.
若いうちに、いろいろな国に行って多くの経験をしたほうが良い。

I believe the glosses were mistakenly for 今のうちに.

think we need "もっとも新しい" as an entry
anymore than we need any random もっとも+adj-i
combination. もっとも新しい共通祖先 on the other
hand isn't A+B as it refers to a very specific
concept in evolutionary biology (or whatever
the specific branch of science might be
called).

 日経平均、30年ぶり2万8000円台 「良い所取り」の株高
新型コロナ禍で沈み込む人々の生活実感と裏腹に、金融緩和が株価を押し上げる「不況下の株高」が進んでいる。8日の日経平均株価は約30年5カ月ぶりの高値となった。悪材料とされてきた、米民主党が大統領と上下両院の過半数を制する「ブルーウエーブ」も買い材料に一変するなど、「いいとこ取り」に死角はないのだろうか。

i don't know that i trust that as a reference for a dictionary. imagine a blog (or elle magazine article, etc.) in english, where they say "what is beauty? beauty has nothing to do with your appearance; it is what's inside you"

in any case, this is just a clear use of 華 so if an additional meaning is needed, it should be added to 華. but i suspect that this is just being used with the meaning of our current sense 3 (so more glosses could be added).

no traditional PoS. also, i'm not sure if video games should be "works" or "unclass". my guess is that we've generally gone with "unclass". did a quick search and most seem to be marked "product"

yeah, i'd probably go "work" as well. i mean it's a fine line. industrial design goes into almost every product we buy, so even a macbook could be considered a "work", but on balance i think there's enough creative merit to video games for them to get that designation
3. A* 2021-02-05 00:58:17  Marcus Richert <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I think we should probably treat all
video/computer games as "work" rather than
"product". Certain Hollywood blockbusters
could probably be called "products" as well
but I don't think it'd be useful for us to
make that distinction.
(I am probably biased as I've worked with
computer games)

It would need to be a separate entry. I'll propose one.

I believe the reading should reflect when the spelling changes from ~機関(きかん) to ~機構(きこう). I've also added the non-mazegaki version for the ~機関 spelling.
