Refs: | The sentence that prompted this submission is: ただある種の女の子が私に感応し、その感応が私に伝わるだけなのよ。[Haruki Murakami] "Certain kinds of girls, though, do respond to me, and I can feel it when that happens." [Jay Rubin's translation] ---------------- (1) I think "responsiveness" and "responding" can be added for cases like the Murakami sentence. Here are some other examples: a) 大人は今の子供たちが感応する音楽が理解できない. Adults cannot understand the music children respond to nowadays. [GG5] b) 感応度 (a degree of) sensitivity; responsiveness; responsivity; a response level. [KOD追加語彙] c) 感応する 〈…にこたえる〉 respond 《to》; ... [新和英中辞典] (2) inspiration I don't think it's "inspiration" in the everyday sense of the word (as in "Helen had one of her flashes of inspiration" or "he is an inspiration to everyone"). GG5's definition says "〔霊感〕 inspiration", so I'd change "inspiration" to "divine inspiration". (3) "divine response" 〈神仏が〉 hear 《our prayer》. [新和英中辞典] (4) Electromagnetism a) 〈電気の〉 induction [新和英中辞典] b) 感応の inductive. [GG5] c) 感応コイル 【電】 an induction coil. [GG5] |

Comments: | It's a very small amount percentually, which I think is the only reasonable way to look at the ngrams, or all entries for common words could be filled with similarly rare forms that just end up being clutter and making the entries harder to parse. It also seems to me that if the text-parser (on WWWJDIC?) isn't picking up katakana versions of entries which only have hiragana in the reading field, then that's really an issue with the text-parser, which shouldn't even be that hard to fix. Browser extension Yomichan for example has no problems bringing up our 平仮名 entry for the input ヒラガナ, without it being explicitly included in that entry. |
