Comments: | (Accidentally created a fork; adding my comment here): The thing is that it can also be a noun if you say 今日はフレンチにしよう。Let's have French food today. It's basically a shortening of フランス料理. So it might be worth adding "French food" as a separate definition, although I believe this is only done on a regular basis for フレンチ、イタリアン、スパニッシュ and メキシカン. You don't say "今日はコリアンにしよう。" If it's not one of these four, country+料理 is more common. |

But we have the term, so it seems an xref would be even more useful. I have made a suggestion on github to fold [electr] into [elec]. I'm not sure what qualifies [2] as "electronics" (vs. [elec]). A simple brainless motor(no complex computer) attached to a battery can do this. This term is also used in the term "Regenerative amplification", a field of "laser science", it seems? |

Comments: | I've noticed that ナニ (always in katakana) is frequently used in Japanese subtitles of English-language movies/TV shows with the meaning "penis". I asked a native speaker if this is really an established expression (when I first saw it) and they commented it's at least commonly used like this in subtitles. It's really a subsense of sense 2 but it seems common enough to get its own sense. "masturbation"/"to have sex" don't seem quite as common (and I haven't encountered the word used like that in the wild/in Jp subtitles either) I considered creating a separate kana-only entry for ナニ but it can be and is of course used with other senses of 何 too and I wouldn't want to direct users looking up the more innocuous use to the wrong entry. |

|
Comments: | My understanding is that this word.is only.used specifically for Japanese-style cropmarks (the 角トンボ especially resembles a dragonfly). Adobe Illustrator has a specific "function" or shortcut for.implementing.these: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/specify-crop-marks-trimming-or.html "Use Japanese-style crop marks Japanese-style crop marks have double lines, which visually define a default bleed value of 8.5 points (3 millimeters). Choose Edit > Preferences > General (Windows) or Illustrator > Preferences > General (Mac OS). Select Use Japanese Crop Marks, and then click OK." Not sure this should be two senses, I feel like it's really one sense that encompasses both symbols (cobsidering the existamnce of words like センタートンボ and コーナートンボ) |

Comments: | The key reason I posted this here was because of the pronunciation shift from haha+saru to hahazaru. If it weren't for the shift, a normal dictionary-based sentence parsing program like the one I wrote ten years ago would catch the two words separately. But lacking a dictionary entry for ザル meaning 'monkey' (and there is no reason you should have one), the parser does not catch the word and display the meaning correctly. |
