Comments: | but "Korean" plays the same role in "Korean person" as in "Korean national" - if it can refer to both Koreas in "... person", can't it in "... national" too? I feel the citizenship part is very important. This is often the only way these people really are Korean - by citizenship. Linguistically, culturally, they're often entirely Japanese. Some are not even fully ethnically Korean but half-Japanese but still "Zainichi Korean" by virtue of their passport. |

Comments: | Do we need "one's lines" when the first gloss is already "line"? I think the qualifier "one's" can lead to confusion. I'm sure it's correct in that an actor etc. could use it to refer specifically to their lines, but this isn't usage that dominates, it's usually about the lines of a fictional character (as most people just aren't actors). (I removed the gloss once in 2021 but Robin added it back) |

Comments: | The JEs are not wrong but they are trying to give natural translations. The JEs assume you know what the Japanese means already. It's very rarely that "seem bitter" - unless the context specifically calls for it - would be used over plain "is bitter" in natural English prose. It's a good idea to be better than the JEs here, even if it makes the glosses awkward. |
