Comments: | But I think the most common usage that would be translated "to turn on" is 洗濯機を回す. You'd never (well, not normally) say "I'm gonna turn/rotate/spin/twist/gyrate the washing machine" in English. If I'm looking for the meaning of 回す in a case like that, I might very well skim past it. I do think it should be its own sense. I suggest giving it number 5, after "to turn (to a new use)" and before "to put (someone in a position)" |

Comments: | Amen, you didn't support your contribution with any references so I checked two major 国語 dictionaries and based my glosses on the following definitions: Daijrin: "目が見えるようになること。また,見えるようにする。「―手術」" Daijisen: "よく見えなかった目が、よく見えるようになること。また、よく見えるようにすること。「開眼手術」" --------- I see now that Kojien has "眼を開くこと" in addition to the above so I've added a gloss to reflect that. Please always cite your sources. I'd also advise against using eijiro as a primary source. It's full of odd terms and translations. "開眼能力", for instance, gets next to no real hits online. |

Comments: | but "Korean" plays the same role in "Korean person" as in "Korean national" - if it can refer to both Koreas in "... person", can't it in "... national" too? I feel the citizenship part is very important. This is often the only way these people really are Korean - by citizenship. Linguistically, culturally, they're often entirely Japanese. Some are not even fully ethnically Korean but half-Japanese but still "Zainichi Korean" by virtue of their passport. |

Comments: | Do we need "one's lines" when the first gloss is already "line"? I think the qualifier "one's" can lead to confusion. I'm sure it's correct in that an actor etc. could use it to refer specifically to their lines, but this isn't usage that dominates, it's usually about the lines of a fictional character (as most people just aren't actors). (I removed the gloss once in 2021 but Robin added it back) |

Comments: | I thought I made this suggested correction yesterday but perhaps I didn’t do something right. Anyway, one of my Japanese language tutors has a son she named 怜恩. According to my tutor, who is from Kobe but lives now in Osaka, 怜恩 is a male name not a female name 99.99999% of the time (her words). Today I checked to see if the correction was agreed upon and see that my entry vanished but also noticed that the pronunciation may have an issue. My tutor wrote レオン as the pronunciation, but Mac OS recognizes it as れいおん. Also she informed me that all the various different kanji versions used to write this name are also male and not female. I noticed in a quick glance that they all seem to be marked as female. |
