Comments: | I'll lock in that most recent version and reopen. I still think it's too long, but it's hard to find a balance between a clear concise gloss and additional useful information. (I've just suggested a small expansion of the 歌舞伎 entry, but it doesn't go very far into all the unique features,) |

Comments: | "savoury pancake fried on an iron griddle with vegetables, meat and/or seafood" this makes it sound as if the vegetables and meat and/or seafood might be fried entirely separately from the batter. "topped with various sauces and condiments" if it were the case that people/restaurants frequently put different kinds of sauces and condiments on top, this phrasing would make sense, but it's very specifically mayo and a sauce similar to Worcestershire sauce, aonori and bonito flakes. This is the same whether it's Osaka or Hiroshima style. I don't see the benefit of not mentioning exactly what's put on top. I think it's a shame to not specifically mention the cabbage but just reduce it to "vegetables", when it's a main ingredient of the batter and not normally what you'd associate with a pancake recipe in the West (savoury or not). Again, both Hiroshima and Osaka okonomiyaki have cabbage in the batter. This is a dish that really has no Western equivalent and isn't widely known outside of Japan. |

Comments: | I was really confused by this phrase: 「三人が拠った東京新詩社」 at: https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/恋衣 Firstly because it’s 〜が (instead of the more familiar 〜によ る), and secondly since the sense is really physically based *at* a place or organization, rather than the more abstract senses of “based *on*” etc. that I’m familiar with. (The 〜が is simply because it’s using it in a noun phrase to modify the company, but this begs the meaning.) I think “based *at*” sufficiently shows the distinct meaning, but also clearly connects it with the other senses. Examples at Weblio are often militarily based at a castle, which supports this. The definitions at GG5/daijr/koj are pretty tricky to tease out though; could use more work. |

Comments: | I think it's important to note who the receiver is when using くれる. I don't know if it's necessary to mention the irregular imperative form. I've added a sense that we were missing. It's sense 2 in daijr and daijs. I found an example in the Tanaka sentences: "彼は連中に有り金を全部くれてやった". The existing sentences are incorrectly tagged. The sense 1 and sense 3 sentences should be (new) sense 3. We want "〜をくれる (not てくれる) examples for sense 1. It would be good to have non-imperative examples for sense 3. |

Comments: | In contemporary Japanese, 日間 is always preceded by a number and read かかん/にちかん, meaning "~ days". This entry and 2827650 (日間/にっかん) are both archaic. I think they should be deleted so as not to cause confusion. None of the occurrences of 日間 that have furigana in Aozora Bunko is read ひあい or にっかん. And 日合い gets zero hits. Comments: | I propose splitting out ひとひ/ひとえ into a separate entry. ひとひ is dated for senses 1 and 2 but archaic/poetic for sense 3. ひとえ is an archaic form of ひとひ. Sense 1 is also adverbial. Sense 2 doesn't apply to いちじつ. |

Comments: | The "ichiman" ref actually had 嗽, so I'll move that to the front. GG5 has 含嗽 as the only kanji form, which is a bit odd, and Daijirin has "嗽 <含嗽>". The question is whether we want うがい to be found by searching for 含嗽. The suggestion of putting うがい as a gikun reading in the がんそう entry is indeed possible. It's a bit messy, but less so than the merge we have just broken up. let's see how that goes. |

Comments: | -i'm not sure how [ichi1] was assigned, but we may want to change this so 嗽 comes first (and put the ichi tag on there... usage tag should presumably be on the first kanji form even though this is uk) 嗽 is the only form for うがい in koj, shinmeikai, meikyo, daijs, daijr, and prog. would also help to distinguish from がんそう. -also, we may want to consider removing 含嗽 from here altogether and adding うがい as a gikun reading in 2797680 |

'Before the pandemic, we were really excited for the Olympics, and really wanted to show omotenashi, but now is just not the right time,' ... 'Omotenashi' is a word you hear all the time when it comes to these Olympics, and the Games were also supposed to show Japan’s welcome to the world. But, in many ways, that spirit has been superseded during the pandemic and the Games by a different vision of Japan: insular, inward-looking and wary of foreigners." |

Comments: | I thought the use of "omotenashi" in this WaPo article was a little interesting. Definitely not worth adding it to the glosses just based on this, but thought I'd leave it here in the comment field. |

Comments: | I mention this on the 待機 entry too but I don't think 待機 is normally used for fixed periods of waiting (like this quarantine is) but a stand-by wait. Is quarantining a period of waiting? Sure, but that's not all it is, it has a specific purpose and also includes various restrictions on movement and behavior. If a translator translated the below mhlw.go.jp use of the word as "waiting time" rather than "quarantine" I don't think they should be working as a translator. |

The corresponding Chinese reading on 上家 (シャンチャ) also doesn't have a [nokanji] tag. I agree with Paul that these entries would be better without the Chinese readings altogether. |

Comments: | 上家 is always read as かみチャ. シャンチャ definitely shouldn't lead. Adding a "partial" flag to the lsrc, as is the case on 下家. シモチャ has a [nokanji] tag, so it shouldn't be in the reference note. Since mahjong is a game played with three other people (上家, 下家, and 対面), maybe a reference to 対面 is appropriate too. |
