I've changed my mind about 拘る. I think we should drop the iK tags. Shinmeikai has had the kanji since at least 1997, and Meikyo since at least 2010. It's commonly used in formal writing. I see 拘る so often that I forget it's not in all the refs.
Meikyo has "古い言い方で" for sense 3.

6. A* 2021-11-21 08:32:51  Opencooper
  Comments:
No problem. My way of thinking has been that it's good to have variants when the English word is one-to-
one with the Japanese, like 色 = color/colour, but not so much when the gloss itself just contains the
word "color". So the case of neighbor/neighbour is fine for 隣人, but not here.
5. A* 2021-11-20 20:15:45  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
Sorry. I misread the original edit and thought you'd just changed one word, hence my
narky comment. Mea culpa.
I used to be keen on having both BrE and AmE spellings to help EJ lookups; now I'm
not chasing that goal and I don't care much which forms are used.
4. A 2021-11-20 19:32:45  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
No problem. I would have done the same thing.
3. A* 2021-11-20 08:48:51  Opencooper
  Comments:
I know the diffs are sometimes opaque or incorrect, so let me explain. The entry prior to my edit was like so:

neighbor with just a wall between; neighbour with just a wall between [0]

I found the second gloss, which only differed in the variant of English for a single word, to be redundant, so I
removed it. This was done without preference towards American or British English. I've stepped on some toes in the
past regarding English variants, so it's my fault for not explaining the edit in the comments.

8. A* 2021-11-19 01:56:59  Marcus Richert <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I don't think "express a desire" is ideal - I would read it as somebody explicitly saying they want something, when that's not what this
means - and "to display want" sounds a little unnatural to me. "to indicate" also sounds very intentional and while it can be, it
certainly doesn't have to be. It also sounds like the "wish" is being pointed out quite clearly when this is more about

私 being the subject is rare but when it is, the context is about somebody else reacting e.g. by noticing the speaker's feelings and
buying something for them. e.g. google results for "私が欲しがって" (all from the first page):
"空港で私が欲しがってたらきゃんちが買ってくれたお魚シート♪( ´θ`)ノ"
" “私が欲しがってた バスの降車ボタン 娘が見つけて ガチャってきてくれたよ"
"友達以上恋人未満の彼から、私が欲しがってたアロマセットをプレゼントしてもらいました。"
"夫「ガレージにきて」私「うん」→私が欲しがってた新品のバイクがドーンと置いてあった!"

daijr: ほしいと思う。ほしそうなようすをする。
I think "appear to" (ようす sense 2: "look; appearance") and "seem to" work the best fit here.

I was going to comment that it seems only to be used in the third person (as in all 11 sentences), but then I saw that ルミナス example which is first person.
I think GG5's explanation is good - the ...を表す is important, It's more about expressing and stating rather than appearing.
I'll suggest some tweaks.

The point I was making is that it won't be obvious from the original glosses that this is a verb you only use to describe what others appear to want. You
wouldn't say X私はこれほしがっているよね to say "I want this", and I think this needs to be made clear in all -がる entries.
5. A* 2021-11-18 06:33:28  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
My problem with this suggestion is that none of the 3 JEs I use has any mention of appear/seemingly, and none of the 11 Tanaka sentences does either. The closest I can see is a また at the end of Koj's explanation. The original glosses are pretty close to the ones in the references. I suspect it's used just as a verbification of 欲しい.

  Comments:
I don't think we want to lose the と-less form, at least not for sense 1. Also, sense 4 isn't an adverb.
I wouldn't object to a ポンと/ポンッと entry if we split out ポン out into a separate entry with just senses 1 and 4, where sense 1 is something like "[adv-to][on-mim] pop; smack; slap;
clap; tap".

As per WP and dicts, this refers specifically to the Japanese phenomenon (sandhi/liaison) (general term for sandhi/liaison is 連音).
This is an unfamiliar and technical phenomenon (found it in dictionary when looking up 親王 and previously seen it in 反応), so I thought it worth an explanation (plus note so can have a Japanese example).
