Comments: | I quite agree on sense 2. For sense 1 I'd prefer having "fourth day of the month" as well, as to me it is not the same pattern as "4th March"/"March 4th". I'll leave it for now, and approve it and reopen it for a bit. |

Comments: | How about using words just for sense 2 (for one to ten)? "four days", etc. looks better to me but days of the month are typically written using numbers (i.e. "4th March"/"March 4th" is more common than "fourth of March"/"March fourth"). |

Comments: | Interesting point. Of course it's not something my Japanese teachers ever said - understandable I guess ' they wanted us to say it correctly. In those circumstances including such readings with an "ik" tag is probably appropriate. |

Refs: | jpwiki: 20日(はつか、にじゅうにち)は、暦上の各月における20日目である。 |
|
Comments: | I think the big difference between the reading にじゅうにち and entries of the ろにん, ろまんじ variety that ended up deleted is that those weren't the type of misspellings that native Japanese speakers actually do. They weren't about documenting the language as it's actually used. Having にじゅうにち here, on the other hand, is not about accommodating learners making mistakes, it's about showing that Japanese people actually do pronounce it this way too (and some even arguing it's as correct as はつか). I do think it should be included here, but if we don't want to do that, I don't think we should have it as a separate "incorrect" entry either. |
|
6. | A* 2021-10-23 05:15:07 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | I'm very wary of having にじゅうにち even with an "ik" tag. I could accept it in a separate "mis-spelling" entry, but as with our former ろにん, ロマンジ, こにちわ, etc. entries we've gone away from that approach. I suggest dropping it. |

Comments: | I don't think it makes sense to use rK to mean "this form contains rarely used kanji" rather than "this kanji field surface form is rarely used". The point of it as I see it is to tell learners they're very unlikely to ever come across that form and don't need to bother learning it. Or to tell a learner's di tionary app to hide it entirely.
