It's irrelevent whether or not the definition is the same as what general public thinks. Terms of a niche within a niche are often misunderstood anyway. People who create (and consume) within a niche should determine the definition. Furthermore, There is another important difference. Lolicon is strictly sexual attracted to females, while pedophilia could be sexual attraction to both sexes, male or female. Lastly, you don't have to be male to be a lolicon, as there are popular (Japanese) female influencers calling themselfs a lolicon.

I don't mind it.

I asked a native speaker btw what they thought and they said (ことばとして)軽いじゃ軽いけど、ペドファイルじゃペドファイル。 I don't think they're actually considered two different things to most Japanese (outside of the otaku realm), but it might certainly be the case that there's a weaker connotation of "actual child molester" than there is for say ペドファイル.

GG5: 〔その男性〕 a man attracted to very young girls.
●あいつはロリコンだ. He's into very young girls. | He has a thing for very young girls.
中辞典: a sexual obsession with young girls; a “Lolita complex”.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedophilia
  Comments:
I'll accept that pedophile/pedophilia are probably accurate glosses, but I note that the JEs avoid that term. I suspect that in Japan there is a view that lolicon and pedophilia are slightly different things, but if you look at the actual definition of pedophilia, they are really the same.
Is there a problem with including "sexual obsession with young girls" in the glosses?

I don't mind "attraction" over "obsession" or "prebubescent" over "young" but I'm not seeing the point of adding rare words like "gynephilic" to secondary glosses (as this meaning is already obvious from the second gloss). It's true a woman could flippantly call herself a "lolicon" despite not being a man but that's true for a lot of gendered language/words and without qualifiers, I don't think anybody would ever assume this word refers to anything but a man.

sexual obsession doesn't make much sense, kokugos tend to use 性愛の対象 which is closer to sexual attraction
using "young girls" (or "very young girls" by gg5) seems pretty euphemistic, kokugos do use 少女 which is ambiguous but nobody would use ロリコン for someone attracted to a 17yo girl. + they often do add 幼女 to be more clear, so prepubescent is a better rendering in my opinion.
"gynephilic" (or a synonym) is needed because "pedophile" alone implies that ロリコン could be someone sexually attracted to prepubescent boys as well which is not the case.
i guess "esp. male" is the most controversial change. i think this image of ロリコン is due to the male-dominated otaku culture (and most pedophiles being male). it's fair to include it, but it doesn't seem *necessary* to be a ロリコン which is probably why many kokugos don't mention it all.
22. A* 2023-10-12 00:27:06  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
Given the extensive discussion last year about edits to this entry, I think case should be made for these proposed changes. Justification for the inclusion of gynephilic is needed.

koj says it's the same as kuda-gitsune... which has an entry in English Wikipedia.
"The kuda-gitsune or kuda-kitsune (管狐, クダ狐), also pronounced kanko, is a type of spirit possession in legends around
various parts of Japan. It may be known otherwise as osaki especially in the Kantō region, and also considered
equivalent to the izuna.

It was believed to assume the guise of a small mammal and able to fit inside a pipe or bamboo tube, but normally only
its keeper or user (kitsune-tsukai) was able to see it. The user, through the power of the kuda, was believed capable of
divulging a person's past or fortelling his future; this soothsayer was also capable of performing curses, bringing
calamity upon targets. In regions where the superstition was held, a prospering household could be accused of achieving
its prosperity because it was a house possed by the spirit (kuda-tsuki). The fox (and its analogues by other names) was
said to multiply in number each time a marriage took place, following the bride to her place of marriage, thus
disseminating into more households."

"In my experience on Jisho the only definition that has been entirely wrong is the definition for:
目に入れても痛くない
Which is defined by Jisho (jmdict) as
thinking the sun shines out of someone's eyes
being the apple of one's eye
loving someone dearly
Here's the J-J definition:
めにいれてもいたくない 【目に入れても痛くない】 普通、異物が目に入ると痛くてたまらないものだが、溺愛(デキアイ)する者の場合はかわいさが先立ち、何でも無
批判に受け入れる、という形容。
Assuming you can understand the J-J definition, your reaction to the jmdict definition should be "wtf, neither the meaning, the nuance, or
the usage, is described at all"."

I don't agree with the poster, I don't think our glosses are actually wrong and I don't think the "nuance" described in the J-J definition
of "normally when you put something in your eye it hurts, but..." is necessary, but this part "何でも無批判に受け入れる" should maybe be
worked in there somehow. There's probably No need to use eye-based glosses either considering the Japanese usage is so different.

For sense 2, Wikipedia says "明治維新を中心に、江戸後期・幕末から明治初中期". Daijr gives the period as "明治期あるいは明治・大正期" but also says "さらに幕末期を含めていうこともある". Not sure how we want to gloss it.

I don't think we can call this "educational institution focused on learning while having fun", it makes it sound like something
that's been formally defined or like it's a specific category of school. This seems more like a casual kanji pun on 学校 that should
be read more as "fun school" and that's being used spec. for "水辺の楽校" (a government project) and in some other similar instances
like Mie Prefecture's "nature school"

It's a headache to gloss so my preference would kind of be to just skip it, but it is common in the ngrams...
