Comments: | i think there's a slight distinction in that your local plastic surgeon's office is a 'private practice' but he is not a 'general practitioner'. unless i'm mistaken, "general practitioner" isn't actually in gg5 (or eijiro, etc.) as a translation of 開業医. what i see is 一般[全科]開業医 a general practitioner (略: GP). |

Comments: | Thanks, I missed that point. I struggled a bit trying to get a sensible set of senses. Daijirin has 4 groups with subsenses, GG5 also has 4 senses and 中辞典 has 5. The 4 I proposed are based on GG5's split. They seem to make sense to me, although I think may be possible to collapse them to just two senses without losing much. |

Comments: | Two things I've observed trying to reformulate 坪 entries according to jmdict's standards: - we almost never abbreviate "square" as "sq.". - we are quite lax in writing meter/metre in all of the places that we could. It's done maybe 1/4 of the time, and basically never in these unit-conversion parentheticals. If only one form is given, it seems like it should be the U.S. spelling. (consistent spelling makes it easier to find these related terms) |
