Comments: | let's take オバアサン[nokanji] out too, I think it's really marginal. The ngrams aren't necessarily correct on the frequency either, the first google result for example is a book on amazon called "オバアサンタチノ集マリ", second is weblio (e.g. this entry), 3rd is a book called ネコノオバアサン... |

Comments: | 顳 is rarer than it looks, since 顳かみ is also a valid form. I use two fonts for reviewing kanji, a handwritten font which is missing a lot of uncommon kanji, and a stroke-order font that has *almost* everything. I was shocked to find the stroke-order font had 顳 but not 顬. This may indicate there is a reason why "顳かみ" pops up as a valid form, even though both kanji seem equally esoteric to me. (This is why I include it, instead of [sK]). |

Comments: | I don't mind dropping "poles apart" and "wildly different". Given that this expressions is used to emphasise the size/extent of a difference, I think "completely" should be in there somewhere. I think "stand no comparison" is fine. It's idiomatic. Daijr even has "比べものにならない" in its definition for 桁が違う. I don't think a lit gloss is needed here. |

AFAICT it's not a phrase in Japanese, except when it's used to explain what アッラーアクバル means. Similarly 生きるべきか死ぬべきか gets 5142 in the n-grams, but I wouldn't make it an entry because it's (just) the translation of a very famous English passage. |

Comments: | hm. daijs says this is "dried shit in the shape of a stick" "乾いた棒状の糞(くそ)。" but "一説に、くそかきべらで、不浄なもののたとえ。" daijr and nikk agree: "伝統的にくそかきべらと解されてきたが、本来は乾いた棒状の大便。" "乾いた棒状の糞。誤って、糞を拭うのに用いた乾いたへらと も解される。" I'm not really seeing "person attached to the world of appearance" though? daijs says "不浄なもののたとえ。" daijr says "常識的な観念を 打破するため、仏や禅僧の比喩として用いる。" nikk "また、もっともきたないもの、取るに足りないもののたとえに用いられる。" I know the note is pretty long, but I feel "dried shit stick" should be in there somehow. The other way to format it is maybe having 3 senses (e.g. 1) sth worthless, 2) stick-shaped shit, 3) dried shit stick), but I don't actually think this would be a better solution. |
