Comments: | let's take オバアサン[nokanji] out too, I think it's really marginal. The ngrams aren't necessarily correct on the frequency either, the first google result for example is a book on amazon called "オバアサンタチノ集マリ", second is weblio (e.g. this entry), 3rd is a book called ネコノオバアサン... |

I'll drop mention of exam pass rates (despite GG5's use of it) as it's not really a correct use of "pass". I think this revision may capture the meaning - I've actually gone back to one of your earlier suggestions. I'll lock it in for now, and reopen for further discussion, if any. |

Comments: | One more note. I started googling "Harvard" "倍率" and trying to tease something out of it. I find sites like this: https://kizukeba-hakase.com/ryugaku-3/ As you might expect, its Japanese people converting the 5% acceptance rate to a 倍率 of 20. It seems that this is just the way Japanese minds evaluate university competitiveness, and I haven't yet found an English language analogue. Anecdotally, google translate will produce garbage (eg "A school with a high magnification") if asked to translate this. I think that in most contexts, the proper translation involves a numerical transformation. Rather than "Tokyo University has a competitiveness rating of 4", "It has an acceptance rate of 25%". Rather than "倍率が上がる一方だ", "acceptance rates keep on declining". I almost think defining 倍率 should follow the model of something like 浄瑠璃 http://www.edrdg.org/jmdictdb/cgi-bin/entr.py?svc=jmdict&sid=&e=1972767 倍率: "bairitsu", a measure of competitiveness used in Japan to evaluate academic institutions(high schools, universities, etc). Calculated by dividing the number of applicants by the number of accepted applicants or available positions. A large value indicates a more competitive institution. Inverse to acceptance rate. See also 合格率 That would certainly be unambiguous, but it's also inventing a definition that I've not yet seen supported by an actual J-E or Japanese dictionary. |

Comments: | 天皇 also undergoes this てんおう→てんのう transformation. 梵天 75809 98.4% 梵天王 1261 1.6% This is not exactly [rare] on its own, but certainly an uncommon variant. With the main entry juxtaposed with such a broad assortment of weird items, I wondered about the importance of the 王 suffix. Turns out, 王 is not often used. On balance, I feel like marking [rare] is the best way to say "don't use this, just use 梵天", but maybe the ngrams are too high for that... For maintenance purposes (I'm going to add some comments on the xref), I think the xref is also useful. This entry may need some additional changes with respect to the Buddhist version of this God. |

Comments: | Allahu akbar is not a proverb, so I don't think we can call its translation into Japanese one. I doubt this should be an entry. AFAICT it's not a phrase in Japanese, except when it's used to explain what アッラーアクバル means. Similarly 生きるべきか死ぬべきか gets 5142 in the n-grams, but I wouldn't make it an entry because it's (just) the translation of a very famous English passage. |

Comments: | This is a variant of sense 5 of 見る: (aux-v,v1) (uk) to try ...; to have a go at ...; to give ... a try. I guess there might be a case for a みて/みたら/みそ entry to highlight that usage, as it's a bit buried in the 見る entry. |
