Comments: | Considering this is [sl], by the numbers "livestream" now exceeds "live stream" online (perhaps 2x), and has dictionary support. Since this might legitimately come up in E->J searches, probably worth having multiple forms on this term in particular. As an actual slang suffix, the bare word "stream" seems most likely to be applicable. "streams" are practically live by definition, (barring "streaming of prerecorded content", which is more of an anomaly where these terms appear). "live (online) broadcast" might be better as an [expl]. 歌枠 have grown in popularity, and probably has 100,000+ examples online. We don't need to have the xref I guess, but it does make the term far more comprehensible if you're just encountering 枠 from an unrelated sense. It's a term likely of interest to young Japanese learners. On submission, noticed 歌枠 was used to create [6] back in 2021. As I found this term the exact same way, this seems like a good exemplar. |

Comments: | It is odd, but it's unusual to have two kanji versions of a country name; one ateji and the other gikun. We could handle this several ways: 1- leave it as is; 2- copy Daijirin's approach, which has one entry with "「氷州」「愛斯蘭」とも当てた〕" at the end of the explanation; 3- have the one entry with 愛斯蘭 tagged as ateji and a note saying アイスランド is a gikun reading; 4. as for 3, but with a note saying "氷州 is gikun and 愛斯蘭 is ateji". I'd maybe go for 3. |

Comments: | 枠's basic meaning is "frame/framework" so in this context it probably has a meaning similar to "bracket" or "zone" (as in "the friendzone"). I don't think it's a separate sense. --- We could add the "from リアルに恋している" note here but I'm not sure it's necessary. I included it on リアコ because it's not obvious that the word comes from リアル+恋. With all these terms, it almost always is a male celebrity but I don't think it has to be. リアコ should probably be aligned with this entry. |

Comments: | Quite agree with cutting it back to リア恋, but a couple of ancillary questions arise: - should it be merged with リアコ? It's almost the smae term. - the リアコ entry has a note "from リアルに恋している". Should that be repeated here? - the リアコ entry has "with a (male) celebrity". Does that "male" apply here too? I suspect it does. |

Comments: | i agree. i'd go further and say that this is 造語 and possibly/probably not deserving of an entry on its own, but if it's kept, i think n-suf covers it. unless there's evidence of メン being used to mean "member" as a standalone word |

Comments: | I don't think it's correct to break down something like 元メン into 元[pref] + メン[noun]. Are there any other examples of words that appear exclusively at the end of compound nouns but are considered regular nouns? Having n on this entry looks silly (and wrong) to me, especially when the other PoS tag is n-suf (defined as "noun, used as a suffix"). It implies that the word is something it's not. I think a single n-suf tag is perfectly sufficient and also less confusing. |
|
9. | A 2020-07-30 11:49:07 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | I spent some time searching for live examples of sentences containing はメンが which would have confirmed nounhood for メン. No real success, but I don't mind this having an "n" in the POS string. I hate to think how many entries we have like that, largely thanks to the kokugos labelling things as nouns for largely historical reasons. |

Comments: | I don't think it's normal for something that's merely an n-suf to take an n-pref. I think that shows it's a noun. I think that words that only appear in compound nouns can still be considered nouns by themselves. |
