I'm OK having this as an entry (and prob. あの道 and この道) but I don't think the 2nd sense should be there. Either we do every single 
sense from 道, or we do just one, or we're being misleading. If it really must be kept, I think the note must go. What does "usual 
meaning" mean? I have my doubts it's actually "usual" as in "more common." But if it were, why isn't it sense 1? I think small 
inconsistencies like these makes the dictionary harder to use.

Probably time to call it a day on this one. I'm leaving it in largely because of its presence in the JEs. 日本語表現文献辞典 does have an "at the most" entry for というところだ/といったところだ. There's also a Tanaka sentence with this meaning: "彼女は多く見ても２０歳というところだ。She's at most 20 years old."
DAJJ has an entry for といったところだ, describing it as "an expression used when the speaker wants to give a brief explanation about something". It gives "I would say ~; ~ is how I'd put it" as translations. Also applies to というところだ.
Sense 1 is the most basic meaning but also the hardest to translate. It's used in all sorts of contexts. This was the best I could come up with.

I agree that the first sense is a bit literal and hardly matches any of the 8 Tanaka sentences that use the phrase. I'm not sure the "at the most" in the JLPT page is much better.
I'd be very happy if someone could come up with a better translation. (I often think of this as "so to speak", which actually fits many of the examples.)

Could a script be set up to find these kind of mismatches? I.e. for entries where there's hiragana in the kanji field that don't appear

I think this is less helpful and I think examples of a genre should have xrefs to the genre, not the other way around.
