Good sense distribution. GG5 et al. break it up too. The 新和英中辞典 has 5 senses, but the first three are are just different nuances of the English word 'corner'.

- スーパーマーケット等で、売り場として設置される一区画。特売コーナーなど。

You might consider merging senses 2 and 3. They are pretty much the same thing (specialized portions of a larger whole), except that (2) mostly relates to media, while (3) is often used in retailing, exhibiting etc.

Thanks. Sorry about my jumping in with trimming; it's worth keeping things as succinct as possible. I've aligned the 河内 entry.

  Comments:
Thank you for your feedback. I will continue to add the remaining 旧国名 over the course of a few days (it’s 73 of them in total, maybe a bit overwhelming
to add at once. This excludes another 10+ entities that existed on the island of Hokkaido that I might look into later).
I have noticed you efficiently trimmed some of the definitions (e.g. “the eastern part” to simply “the east”). I agree with this policy, but shouldn’t we then do
the same for all words? For example, for 加賀 “the southern part” was trimmed to “the south”, but for 河内 “the eastern part” was accepted without
trimming.
3. A 2020-06-08 20:11:15  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I think this is sufficient and appropriate. Removing the locations would make it a bit
limited. Daijirin mentions it's an abbreviation, but I wouldn't go that far.
I wondered about a tag such as hist, but it's not necessary or appropriate.
2. A* 2020-06-08 10:57:07  Tsuchida
  Comments:
@Jim Breen; I have understood your comment
regarding forks. My apologies. I have added 10 new
旧国名 for now. I will continue adding the rest as
soon as I get a positive response.
While doing research, I found out that only some 旧
国名 correspond 100% with currently existing
prefectures (such as Tosa=Kochi and Kai=Yamanashi).
Most former provinces consist of only one half of a
currently existing prefecture, or overlap multiple.
This is why, if applicable, I have tried to mention
the location of the former province as thorougly as
possible (e.g. Kawachi (former province located in
the eastern part of present-day Osaka Prefecture)).
At the same time this is a dictionary and not an
encyclopedia, so please let me know if you think
this is too wordy.

I was hoping it might be in GG5 or something. It's not a household word but I think it'd be nice if we
could translate terms and jargon used in various industries as well, not least for people in these
industries (for Japanese companies trying to explain their products in English, for example). But if we
can't come up with a useful gloss, let's toss it aside for now.

I'm struggling to see how a meaningful entry can come from this. It's not as if it's super common or a household word. You'd have to go into quite an explanation to end up with anything vaguely useful.

I agree that we might want to think of some clear rules regarding the use of the prolonged sound mark. In adding the 旧国名 I have
been using them in the actual name but not in the prefecture names that appear in the description. E.g.:
近江 おうみ Ōmi (former province located in present-day Shiga Prefecture)
but:
淡路 あわじ Awaji (former province located on Awaji Island in present-day Hyogo Prefecture)

While the name Ibaraki (or “Ibaragi”, as locals tend to pronounce it) may not immediately scream “destination” to international travelers, this unsung prefecture is much more than a typical rural outlier.

I disagree, いばらき being pronounced いばらぎ is very common, should not be sk.

As discussed in the rejected 期待の新人 (2845127) submission, 期待の... is not uncommon, with the meaning of rising/up-and-coming/etc. I'll propose an adj-no sense for 期待 and if accepted this can be rejected.

I don't know about this. It's obviously used, but it's also obviously just 大 + 記録 and entirely compositional. The fact that no reference has it, not even Eijiro, probably indicates it's not particularly useful. I'd probably say no.

There's also an example of computer usage in EIjiro, but I think it's a bit obscure.

My tendency is to always opt for non-inflected expressions as it makes it easier for third-party applications to parse a wider range of

The 2007 submission said "Quite common, but not a dictionary entry or translation in sight." and added the following passage, presumably from a blog:
"土曜日から実家に帰って、オヤジの PC の設定を行う。DVRex 用に使用している PC に Windows NT がインストールされていたり、K6-2 のマシンが新規に組み立てられていたりと、すっかりはまり道だなぁ。"
  Comments:
I think the submitter was just quoting the name of the Manga by Sensha Yoshida. I'll move this to the names dictionary as a work.
