	Comments:	I think I'll close it at this stage. We've had a ゼネラルコントラクター entry since 2005, and it gets ~200 in the n-grams. I see many of those are describing the source of ゼネコン as general contractor accompanied by the katakanan transcription, but a few are freestanding. That said, I can't really make a case for ゼネコン coming from ゼネラルコントラクター. I'll put a link from ゼネコン to here.

	Comments:	The fact that no dictionary has an entry for ゼネラルコントラクター (or even mentions it) suggests that it was never an established term before ゼネコン came into existence. See how the above site explains the origin of the term. I don't think it's generally considered an abbreviation in Japanese.

	Comments:	My bad. I think it'd be easier to just do the xref. I just don't find it very believable that "general contractor" made the jump from English into Japanese immediately as ゼネコン, and even 百歩譲って assuming it's true, it's such a minor, minor point and I don't see how it'd do any harm to call this an abbr and x-ref to ゼネラルコントラクター.

	Comments:	I didn't say "more common". My main concern was that we were linking to a word that isn't in the refs, and implying an etymology that isn't supported by the refs. As you point out, the note isn't ideal. I'd rather that we followed the kokugos by not mentioning ゼネラルコントラクター at all. How about this?

	Comments:	Is having an xref to ゼネラルコントラクター really the same thing as saying ゼネラルコントラクター is more common or the more proper form? I actually think it accomplishes the exact same thing as the note does, and sure, the xref can be misinterpreted, but so can the note. We also have plenty of entries where the shortened form is much more common, yet there's an xref to the unabbreviated form. I do think it would be better if we had more granular xrefs than just "see XXXX", though. Ideally it should be "abbreviated form of..." xref or possibly a more general "derived from" xref.

	Comments:	I'm not saying that "genecon" is an English word (indeed it's not), but rather that ゼネコン came directly from "general contractor". Of course, to get ゼネコン, you first have to katakana-ize "general contractor" into ゼネラルコントラクター, but according to the refs and n-grams, this was never an established term in Japanese. Otherwise, you'd expect to see "ゼネラルコントラクターの略" in the kokugos. If we have to mention ゼネラルコントラクター, I'd rather we ditched the x-ref and abbr tag, and instead added a "from ゼネラルコントラクター" note, as Jim suggested.

	Comments:	None of the kokugos describe this as an abbreviation of ゼネラルコントラクター. At most they have "general contractorの略". Daijr and miekyo don't mention abbreviations at all and just give the English source word. I've made this point before but I think it's important to distinguish between Japanese abbreviations (i.e. shortened forms of Japanese words) and Japanese words that are derived from abbreviations of English words. ゼネコン appears to fall into the latter category, and we do not usually tag such words as abbr. I think that the abbr tag here implies that ゼネラルコントラクター is the original and more "proper" or formal term, when that's not the case.

	Comments:	日本語表現文献辞典 does have an "at the most" entry for というところだ/といったところだ. There's also a Tanaka sentence with this meaning: "彼女は多く見ても２０歳というところだ。She's at most 20 years old." DAJJ has an entry for といったところだ, describing it as "an expression used when the speaker wants to give a brief explanation about something". It gives "I would say ~; ~ is how I'd put it" as translations. Also applies to というところだ. Sense 1 is the most basic meaning but also the hardest to translate. It's used in all sorts of contexts. This was the best I could come up with.

	Comments:	1) there is no such animal as "udon flour". Udon is thick noodle usually made with wheat flour. Soba is the Japanese name for usually thinner, usually buckwheat noodles. 2) in my experience, there is often conflation of wheat (a grass) and buckwheat (a cover plant). Buckwheat is not wheat. They're completely different kinds of plants. For that reason, some clarity on this entry seems appropriate. 	Comments:	This entry was originally in jmdict, but it is now the only entry in all of jmnedict with a priority tag. The film described by the gloss premiered in 2005, but the wordfreq file from which the [gai1] tags originate (according to the notes in the JMdict file preamble) was compiled in the 1990s. I thought maybe the term might have been popular in the 1990s for some other reason, but I checked the wordfreq file and don't actually see it in there.
