Comments: | It is a coordinating conjunction between two predicative elements, the usual "and" 中止法 of a 連用形. Now, it is true that it is not the same as [1], which is a subordinating conjunction, yet has the same tag. This is more so a consequence of the tag itself than anything else. It is just 'conjunction', and it is found both in coordinating and subordinating conjunctions across the corpus as follows: Coordinating: 又、けれども、或いは、と(Noun coordinator)、でも... Subordinating: なら、たら、と(Predicate subordinator)、ないで... |

Comments: | The ず for is also continuative (equiv. to 〜ないで) according to M&T's Intermediate grammar dictionary. Normally I'd be happy to drop this as people looking it up will get a good match with どうすることもできない, but at around 20k in the n-grams, maybe it's worth having as well. |
|
4. | A* 2020-03-28 00:04:00 Robin Scott <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | But the ず just turns it into an adverb. It's not really a variant but rather a different grammatical form. Plenty of 〜ない expressions can be written like this. The glosses would need to be changed but I don't think we need the entry at all; it's enough to have どうする事も出来ない. |

Refs: | どうする事も出来ない 12420 どうする事もできない 7195 どうすることもできない 62378 |

Comments: | I think this has to be handled in association with どうすることもできない, which is essentially the same term, albeit much more common. The できない version is in GG5, Tanaka examples, etc. Given that it's accepted as an entry, I don't think we should block the できず variant. |

In addition to this JWN related entry there are two similar WI1 entries, which I will address separately (with reference to this entry), since I don't think there should be several entries with less than optimal return. Regarding this entry I propose that it be removed and that "Text Glossing" be set instead to point to the JEDIC entry for 調整. |

Comments: | https://www.edrdg.org/wiki/index.php/Editorial_policy#References - "... the Eijiro glossary should not be the sole source of references for a proposed entry, although it may be used as a supplementary reference for confirming meanings." Clearly this submission needs more work. |

Comments: | AFAICT this is not a general term in Japanese, but the Japanese name of the Federal District of Brazil which contains Brasilia. I think we should be treating it as a name. |
