I can see that "unnecessary" may well be used in newspaper articles, etc. but that needs to be seen in context af the whole article. By itself it's a risky word to have in a gloss because it's much broader than 不要不急. I think it's best omitted.

The phrase is appearing in the news all 
the time these days - the best translation 
in these cases is "please refrain from 
unnecessary outings", and if you look at 
the Japan Times etc. I think this is how

I think the etymology note is useful.

Given that "wheat gluten" refers to the actual food (and is used interchangeably with "seitan") I think this should be fine.
Do we need the etymology note? The 正しい->セイ connection won't be obvious to a lot of people.

The ず for is also continuative (equiv. to 〜ないで) according to M&T's Intermediate grammar dictionary.
Normally I'd be happy to drop this as people looking it up will get a good match with どうすることもできない, but at around 20k in the n-grams, maybe it's worth having as well.

But the ず just turns it into an adverb. It's not really a variant but rather a different grammatical form. Plenty of 〜ない expressions can be written like this. The glosses would need to be changed but I don't think we need the entry at all; it's enough to have どうする事も出来ない.

I think this has to be handled in association with どうすることもできない, which is essentially the same term, albeit much more common. The できない version is in GG5, Tanaka examples, etc. Given that it's accepted as an entry, I don't think we should block the できず variant.

With the improved ベルマーク entry, I think this can be rejected.

It's hard to generalize in a few words (Merriam-Webster has a multi-volume guide for its staff.)
In this case I felt something was needed in the way of an explanation. I considered just having the ベルマーク entry alone, having expanded it from the rather useless transliteration, but in the end I thought having both was better, but I've left it open for other editors to consider. In these sorts of cases we usually try and align the meanings fields, as I have done here.
Note that ベルマーク運動 and ベルマーク alone can't be in the same entry, HTH.

I'd like to know what is the appropiete thing to do in a case like this, for future edits as well. Adding the expresion and reading to the entry in xref? In other words, kana only expressions can be mixed with expressions with kanji, just sorting them by frecuency? [when 2/3 rule applies]
