Comments: | I'm confused about sense 3. Wikipedia lists two separate meanings (alignment in D&D style games, and the meaning used in video games), and I'm mostly familiar with the latter meaning. I'm fine with keeping "alignment" (D&D meaning) but "character class" usually means the character's _profession_ (warrior, ranger, cleric etc.) and has little to do with 属性 水属性の敵 means an enemy that's probably strong against attacks that classify as "water" but weak against attacks of a different type. You would do well to choose an attack that doesn't do water damage, or equip items that provide resistance to water damage (because the enemy deals water damage) I would translate this simply as "element" most of the time, even though the categories don't always match the classical four or chinees five elements. "type" would be a good translation too. |

Comments: | JT: There has been much talk in Japan recently about the imminent danger posed by an “overshoot,” a word used with no Japanese translation, little context and an apparent disregard for the English language, baffling English and Japanese speakers alike. Of the many Japanese politicians, experts and journalists who have adopted the word as part of their virus lexicon, few seem to have taken a moment to ponder what it actually means or where it comes from. According to the health ministry, “overshoot” means an explosive spike in coronavirus infections in which the number of patients doubles within two to three days. Officials fear “overshoot” will lead to the collapse of the health care system. In Tokyo, the number of infections has grown more than sixfold over the past two weeks, but government officials maintain that an “overshoot” has not occurred here or anywhere else in the country. |

Comments: | Lots of words can be na-adjectives in informal speech/writing, but we don't normally tag them as adj-na just based on limited anecdotal evidence like that. クロスプラットフォームなx is not nonexistent but obviously a lot less common than ~のx, and might also be considered incorrect. Comments: | yeah, when it's used as "as a result", i think it's basically just その結果は... with the は dropped. so it just means "as for the result of that..." etc. it doesn't really have a different meaning than usual. i don't think this is needed, and i agree that it's ugly to shoehorn in the literal meaning as a tucked-away second gloss i dislike 実用日本語表現辞典 as a standalone source, and i think we should put the same caveat on it that we have on eijiro |
|
4. | A* 2020-03-20 02:05:39 Robin Scott <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | Although it's somewhat idiomatic, I think the meaning is obvious enough that it's not really worth adding. Also, I think entries like this are a bit unsightly when we have to have an additional sense just for the literal translation. |

Comments: | Term refers to an 80's car model. It was renamed to Quinto Integra クイントインテグラ. I think back then it was a rather common term due to the model popularity. Should this entry be moved to Jmnedict? Car models are not in the editorial policy proper names list. |
