I think the proposed split was a three-way split:
黄葉 [こうよう] leaves turning yellow in the autumn; yellow leaves
紅葉 [こうよう] leaves turning red in the autumn; red leaves
紅葉;黄葉 [もみじ] [1] autumn colours [2] maple [3] layered garments [4] venison
it seems prudent to split out the two こうよう entries, not vice versa

礫 is an ancient typo. Totally the wrong kanji. Not the one in GG5, which I mis-read in 2013.
With the 礫刑/磔刑 error removed, we could consider merging 1570050 here.
I think there are really two senses here - the original Japanese one, then the one when the term was adopted by Christians.

  Comments:
I considered it, but decided not to:
- it's old, we'd need an "ok" on the reading, but that doesn't really help get the "arch" message across.
- the だいとこ reading would only apply to the 2nd sense, which means the other two senses would need restrictions put on them.
In general we'd avoid merging on the basis of a little-used form that only applied to one of the lower-ranked senses.

5. A* 2020-04-01 20:04:34  Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
yeah, when it's used as "as a result", i think it's basically just その結果は... with the は dropped. so it just means "as for the result of that..." etc. it doesn't really have a different meaning than usual.

i don't think this is needed, and i agree that it's ugly to shoehorn in the literal meaning as a tucked-away second gloss

i dislike 実用日本語表現辞典 as a standalone source, and i think we should put the same caveat on it that we have on eijiro
4. A* 2020-03-20 02:05:39  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
Although it's somewhat idiomatic, I think the meaning is obvious enough that it's not really worth adding.
Also, I think entries like this are a bit unsightly when we have to have an additional sense just for the literal translation.

Masses of Eijiro, etc. examples. In the EJs, but not JEs (of course).
  Comments:
I'm of two minds about this. The literal meaning (sense 2) is common and would not justify inclusion. Sense 1 is a little idiomatic and it may help beginners to include it (harmless anyway.)
