I think あ can be dropped. We don't have the archaic pronoun senses for か(彼), かの(彼) and かれ(彼).
I don't think we need アレ in the readings field.

Adding そら to other entries would be messy as it doesn't seem to apply to all senses and would lead to restrictions.
The references are all over the place for それ, そら, etc. I'm inclined to leave it where it is.

Sorry for not making a better case.
I get "take that" from Daijr
それ [1] (感)
〔代名詞「それ」から〕
相手の注意を喚起したり指示したりするときに用いる語。そら。「―急げ」
but it might not be a good translation. THere is already a そら entry - maybe それ belongs as a reading there rather than as an additional meaning here?
However, that entry also has a meaning that is equivalent to それは - maybe that should be split out from there and merged with そりゃ?

i.e. as now, 3 entries, except

それ (this entry), as-is
それ、そら [int] "here!;there!
そりゃ;そら [exp] that is

Sorry, I see jawiki says Americano is different from "アメリカンコーヒー":
https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/アメリカーノ_(コーヒー)
on the other hand, at Starbucks, アメリカン does mean アメリカーノ:
https://news.yahoo.co.jp/byline/yokoyamanobuhiro/20161206-00065178/
since they have 1601 stores in Japan, maybe it'd be fair to say it can mean both things though.

In the elliptical style of dictionary entries I don't feel the need for a N or NP with "esp.", but it's fine to have them.
9. A* 2020-12-02 15:51:31  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I'm not exactly sure why but I feel that "esp." needs to be followed by a noun (or noun phrase). Maybe it's because "especially large and double-edged" reads like "particularly/very large and double-edged" to me. That's why I changed it to "usu." I agree that "esp." is more suitable here but I think the gloss would need to be worded like this. (Alternatively, "esp. one that is large and double-edged").

with "usu" I get the impression we're talking about a specific type of sword (one that is usually large and double-edged) rather than a

I don't mean to be arguing over small details, but isn't "esp" better than "usu"? It can be used to refer to all kinds of swords, but
especially large and double-edged ones.

I still prefer to have more glosses, partly because this data is being used in a reverse direction, so a reasonable spread of terms is appropriate. The meanings do fairly cleanly break into two groupings - spatial and temporal and the fact that English uses the same term for both doesn't stop it being two senses.

The anonymous contributor is correct. I think that it would be totally reasonable to gloss this simply as “long” and nothing else, because 長い can be used
with anything. The way this is written may be misleading to users who might think that they can’t use it to say “long hair”, for example.
“lengthy” and “protracted” don’t quite fit. “lengthy” gives a sense of extensive length. Wisdom translates it as 長く続く; 長すぎる. Even though it’s entry
also has “lengthy” as a gloss, it’s only used to make the English example sentences sound a bit more natural. I don’t think it’s necessary and I think it’s
better to direct users to a word that can a connotation of “too long” in Japanese.
“protracted” means prolonged or extended, and Wisdom translates it as 長引く, 長期化した, and it isn’t mentioned in the entry for 長い.

I don't think this is an obvious/self-evident extension. The back-ref'd synonym 隻腕 had only "one-armed person", which I feel otherwise would need to be removed entirely.

I don't think as a noun this means "one-armed person" by itself(same with the backref).

A lot of "片腕腕立て伏せ" looks like potential machine translation, but here's a one-armed pushup by an authentic looking Japanese guy:

I see some refs which describe jukujikun as kun readings of established kanji compounds (from Chinese; e.g. 昨日・きのう, 今朝・けさ) as opposed to words which acquired novel kanji representations (流石・さすが, 一寸・ちょっと, 麦酒・ビール). They consider the latter group to be ateji.

I guess it's probably best to continue using the [ateji] tag only in the narrow sense. Definitely less confusing.

当て字 in the broad sense of the word includes 熟字訓. Meikyo and Wiktionary have it as a second sense.
16. A 2024-02-25 10:43:06  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>

Quite a few references conflate ateji and gikun. Our ateji tag was added in 2009, based on some kokugos.

Refs say the 流石 kanji form derives from kanbun: 枕流漱石(流れに枕し石に漱ぐ).

Daijirin has a long note explaining how the word itself originated from a combination of the adverb さ, the verb suffix す, and the particle がに.

Several kokugos (daijirin, iwakoku, smk) refer to 流石 as "当て字" or "借字", which doesn't make any sense to me. Those references also have 流石 marked with their usual jukujikun symbols.
  Comments:
I feel like [ateji] here is inconsistent with how we normally use the tag. As far as I can tell, there's no phonetic connection to these kanji.

They do look similar, but no literate native speaker would have any trouble identifying which is which. I mean, 蜜 has 虫 in it. If 蜜 and 密 had similar or related meanings, I could believe that people were using 蜜 intentionally, but that's not the case. I still don't think it's needed.

While it's not really an idiom, although that Imidas ref has it as one, poking around the many examples of this indicates that it's usually sense 2, which is not what I'd think from the sum of the parts. I'd like to keep it for that reason, probably with the senses reversed.
I think the other sense needs to be kept, but I appreciate the problem with the translation.
