In 金将/金將 sorts of situations I think an "oK" is fine. It signals to users that they shouldn't be using the 金將 as though it were a regular and recognized form.
As to whether 將 should be here at all, I think the point is that it shows up in some shogi contexts.  Apart from that, it obviously needs caution. For example, you'll find 將校 in pre-WWII documents, which is why it's in the 将校 entry.

One variant of this which I could not find here is 魔法杖, "magic wand" (まほうづえ).  I believe it is more often written as "魔法の杖", but the single compound is also used.

I suppose "魔法の杖" could also be an entry, along the lines of the entry for 魔法の絨毯 or 魔法のキノコ.
