Well, in the end I guess it's up to you to make an "executive decision" if you think including certain words could hurt the project. We do otoh already 
have a ニガー entry. I agree the n-word doesn't really belong here, it's not half as strong as くろんぼ. But I think including "darkie; golliwog" would 
help. We decided after some debate that [ctr] entries should begin with "counter for..." despite them already having the [ctr] tag. One of the 
arguments was that people don't look too closely at the tags. If we accept that argument here, it could lead a beginner to think this was a useful

Sorry for belaboring this, but this has important implications for future glossing, so I feel it needs to 
be. If such argument is better suited for the mailing list, I can take it there.

The editorial policy does say to "make the translations as international as possible", using the same 
example you gave. However, I always interpreted this as referring to the primary gloss. Indeed, our entry 
for 「大学」 has both "university" and "college" in that order. Going through the above lexico.com link, tons 
of our entries include both English variants of terms (arbitrary examples: 駐車場, 薬局, ナス). Even for 
katakana entries with a specific lsrc, we list the variants (e.g. クッキー, ラップ, ズッキーニ).

Including English dialectal variants is not an unusual practice, especially among the Japanese–English 
dictionaries we consult such as Chuujiten, where there'll be annotations such as 《米》 and 《英》. We can't 
just service an elusive "international English", but should support multiple English renderings. In fact, we 
add glosses all the time when they are useful for reverse lookups.

Finally, "gym" in this usage, while possibly unfamiliar to non-Americans, isn't uncommon. See above 
references. Unfortunately, there will be many cases where polysemes might cause confusion, but this is not a 
problem when there are other glosses to clarify and it's not leading.

Yep, but it doesn't travel that well. I've always tried to keep the translations as universal as possible, e.g. using "university" rather than "college" which is primarily a US term. "gym" in BrE  has a lot of different associations, and isn't usually a portmanteau term for physical education.

Strange, seems OED's lexico site doesn't let you link to the US version, but the sense I meant was:

    2 Physical education.
    ‘I'm taking just one more semester of gym’

As in "gym class". I can verify that this is what we called PE in the states, and there weren't any 
gymnastics involved :D.

Since it's also a slangy abbreviation of ありがとうございます, what particular difference do you mean? If it inflected as a 五段 verb that might be a reason, but I can't see that taking place.

fundamentally inadequate.  It really doesn’t matter which match you observe, 
the Gyoji will shout はっけよい the instant the 立ち合い is successful.  In the 
initial usage, it has nothing to do with the rikishi becoming motionless.  If you 
watch this video, or any one of thousands of others, the minute the 
combatants make contact without triggering a false start, the Gyoji belts it out.

I think most style guides recommend "ancient Greek" over "Ancient Greek", but "Early Middle Japanese", "Old Japanese", etc. dominate in online search results (including Google Scholar). I don't object to using capitals here.

I liked these better with capitals actually.

This was discussed in another entry, and it was agreed that our style is to avoid capitals on old/new/middle unless it was a recognized name, as in the Old Testament, etc.  
That said, I think that you are raising a valid point here about language identification. I see we gloss 古ノルド語 as "Old Norse", and to me that is correct. There was a language which is now known as Old Norse, with the"Old" being part of the name. (Similarly I'd translate Nynorsk as "New Norwegian" with a capital N on the New.)
I wouldn't object to putting the capitals back on those language names. I'd like first to give Robin and others a chance to review and comment.

よほど doesn't take on a new meaning when it's used adjectivally as よほどの, so I don't think a new sense is needed. "Unusual" and "extraordinary" are quite context-specific translations. It really just means "considerable/great".

While I'd like to offer a non-romaji gloss, "calling card murder" doesn't seem to me to explain anything, or seem appropriate.  All I imagine is a crime where the perpetrator leaves behind his "calling card", be it a literal card, or by always leaving something recognizable at the crime scene.  In the latter sense there, I can see the most tenuous connection to this term, but it still seems off to me.

I searched american amazon.com for "calling card murder" and got *one* book, and it's exactly what I said:
"the only clue is the four calling cards found in the man’s jacket pocket. Can they shed any light on his identity?"

Agatha Christie's "The ABC Murder's" is given as an english-language example.  The English-language wikipedia page (extensive) for the novel contains the word "calling card" only once, and it is a literal, physical item left at the scene:

Jitsuyo doesn't say it's not a photo, only that it often refers to images that aren't photos of the real thing. It gives photos used in advertising as examples of イメージ画像.
There might be two senses here but I don't think it refers specifically to image *files*. In the article above, the イメージ画像 are just Google image results. I think イメージ画像 are always viewed via a digital medium, though. A real-life painting or drawing wouldn't be an イメージ画像 (unless it was scanned).

I think those examples you showed were of イメージ as in computer image, a different sense of イメージ. Maybe this should be 2 senses? jitsuyo

I think this refers to any physically or digitally produced image (as opposed to a mental image, which is the only meaning the dictionaries have for "イメージ").
It's often an image used to explain or demonstrate something, but not necessarily (see the links above).
