Comments: | I don't think calling them "Chinese characters" is helpful. AFAIK, we don't shy away from calling them "kanji" anywhere else in the dictionary. In particular, I can't see any reason to mix and match terms with a gloss like "Chinese characters and kanji compounds". I think "Chinese-Japanese character dictionary" is likewise unhelpful. Any time you hyphenate a dictionary, e.g., "French-English dictionary", people expect that the dictionary contains glosses from one language to the other. If an explanation is desired, I can't see how we can improve on GG5's: 漢和辞典 a (Japanese) kanji [character] dictionary; a dictionary providing Japanese definitions of kanji and kanji compounds. Perhaps: * kanji dictionary; Japanese dictionary of kanji and kanji compounds. |

Comments: | This was discussed quite a bit in 2123320, which was deleted in 2019. I wrote then "そつ indeed has no kanji, but it is being used (mistakenly) with kanji. I would like people to be able to look up 卒なく, etc. and be led to the right place, and be told it's an error. I don't mind it not being here, but it may be a step too far to add it to the そつなく entry as "iK". It's the 事ム所 problem." I think that given it's out there, and we should have it searchable, it is probably better to have it here as "iK' as have it in another entry with the same meaning and reading simply pointing here. I'll add it, approve, then reopen. |

Comments: | I dropped 卒なく in 2019 but it's actually quite common and 実用日本語表現辞典 has an entry for it. It's definitely non-standard — 卒 doesn't have a meaning that would make sense in this context — so I'm wondering if want to make a separate entry for it. Even with an iK tag, I'm not sure this is the place to record it. |
