9. | A* 2019-12-27 01:00:12 Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
Comments: | I thought it was our policy to only use id on expressions (see 狼煙, 月並み, 電池切れ). The majority of those 218 entries are expressions, but there are a lot on that list (e.g. 波, 空気 難民) that I don't think are idioms by any definition. --- I agree there probably is an argument for dropping the id tag. |
|
8. | A* 2019-12-26 23:00:01 Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>
Comments: | i agree that this should not be marked as an idiom and we have had some short back and forths and compound nouns being idioms in the comments of various entries, but i agree that this should be raised on the mailing list we should also consider what value the [id] label actually has. since people can disagree on what an "idiom" is, it's not clear why we even need this tag. it is usually pretty clear when a gloss does not match the literal meaning of the individual terms. i'm not sure why we need to tell people "this is an idiom" or not. to my knowledge, i've never seen another kokugo, english dictionary or J-E that bothers with an idiom tag |

Comments: | Taking explanations why certain suggested new entries were not accepted as precedent, this entry should be removed, I think, since a) all its constituent items are in the dictionary, and b) adding up those constintuent items yields the correct meaning when the complete expression is requested. On the other hand, this entry is presented as (neutral) partial match for queries like 著作権保護 or 著作権保護データ, and as (distracting) partial match for queries like 著作権保有者 or 著作権保持者. |
