never used to mean "naive" in the English sense. It's
almost exclusively used to mean 純粋で傷つきやすいさま --
in other words, "You're surprisingly sensitive" would be a

i'm unsure of how best to gloss this but i think this mix-and-match approach is potentially confusing.

sense 1 is written as if the person remembering as the subject, and sense 2 is written as if the thing remembered is the subject. because this entry doesn't start with に, i think sense 1 has the better perspective for the entry, but i don't like the gloss used

History:

  Comments:
I'd just like to add that we include "no one"/"nobody" here for the same reason other JE dictionaries do: it's helpful. These are the most common English translations.
It's the same with 誰も. "誰も知らない" translates to "no one knows", not "everyone doesn't know".
This difference in structure between English and Japanese is not especially difficult to grasp, especially in context.
I think excluding these glosses would actually be more confusing to a leaner.

"with neg. verb" is our way of indicating 下に打消の語を伴う as in koj or (…ない) as in gg5

I am restoring the version that was approved by Robin, Jim, and (now) me, which matches what GG5 has.

Rather than re-editing an entry approved by three of the editors, this is an issue for the mailing list. The entry for 誰一人 is not the place to relitigate how an entire class of entries is written.

  Comments:
Welcome to JMdict, Nicolaus.

"Food porn" is far from obscure. The Japanese
word itself is slang and could be considered
offensive for its casual reference to terror.
Although the (largely hypothetical) potential
for offensiveness might be different, I think
it's a good match in register. Finding the
right translation is always a balancing act,
especially for slang, but I'm not seeing at
all any issues with having "lewdness" (which I
frankly struggle to see in expression "food
porn") in the first gloss.

Also, we don't add usage notes on the English
glosses, only on the Japanese itself. There
could be advantages to adding such notes, but
since something like that would affect a lot
of entries, that discussion would be best
suited for our Github:

The English slang would be "food porn" which something even most English speakers have never heard of.
Can we please keep the lewdness out of being the primary definition?
I realize this is going back and forth, so maybe moving the "food porn" part to the parentheses keeps this congruent yet more appropriate.

Sorry to reopen this.
新和英中辞典 is the abridged version of GG5 so their glosses are usually the same.
I don't think this refers to the freshly exposed form. That daijr definition is just describing what happens when it's exposed to the air.
Looking at the kokugo definitions, I'm fairly confident that "arsenic mineral" is the best translation here (and I'm not really convinced by "arsenious anhydride").

My guess is that "arsenic mineral" is more accurate. I'm hoping someone with some knowledge about this stuff could confirm.
