Paul Blay proposed the split in 2007, quoting a Goo URL that no longer works. I actually think these two sets of meanings are different enough to warrant separation. Sense 1 is something that could happen several times a year, whereas sense 2 can only happen once. I agree it's not a big difference.

i still think the pronoun should be in a kana-only アイ entry.  we generally don't give romaji headwords to entries unless they are abbreviations, etc. not full english words.  by violating that here, i think we open a can of worms that would allow romaji headwords for all of the kana entries.  perhaps that's what we want, but it's not currently what we have.  so i think having the pronoun here is inconsistent.

"Tamaya" isn't a word for the shout, but what is shouted itself. Moving etymological info to note. Though the x-ref is the kanji for the vendor, it's not listed at the target, instead pointing to "jeweler", making it more confusing than helpful.

If this is accepted, I'll make the same changes to 「かーぎや」.
