Almost all the 28 sentences are using it to mean "typical" and "characteristic". I assume this is sense 1.

Sorry to reopen this but I think 4 senses is excessive. The kokugos and JEs have at most three (modern) senses; some only have two.
I got "emotive conviction" from Makino and Tsutsui's Dictionary of Intermediate Japanese Grammar. It has a good entry on this expression.

ホール [gai1,ichi1]
1. [n]
▶ hall (dance, concert, etc.)
2. [n]
▶ dining area of a restaurant

History:
8. A 2019-08-31 02:20:28  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
The Ichiman collection didn't differentiate on sense. The "gai1" came from simple high Google counts on an Eijiro-based gairaigo list. Since "ホール + hall" is much more common than the others I'm happy for the tag to stay here, but maybe "ホール + hole", etc. are common enough too.
7. A* 2019-08-27 04:14:17  Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
i think we need to be careful with the usage tags here. can we consult the original sources and check where the gai1/ichi1 came from? IIRC, gai1 should be linked to a specific english term (hall vs. hole), whereas ichi1 will be ambiguous. i suspect that ホール will also deserve some form of usage tag

Thanks to everyone for the thoughtful feedback. I agree now that the entry is probably fine as-is, as long as we take care to avoid using "meld" and "yaku" interchangeably on senses that are mahjong-specific (unlike this one).

I agree with Jim - in hanafuda and mekuri karuta, "win condition" does not work at all as a translation. Thanks for sharing your expertise on mahjong through so many entries though, Stephen! (not to mention the great work you're doing on Yomichan)

I'm uncomfortable with this edit as I feel it's rather too focused on the specific situation with mahjong, where a chow (which I regard as a type of meld) is not a "win condition". Unless we were to create a mahjong-specific sense, I'd rather the sense was left the way it was, with "meld" still there as a gloss. After all the term is used in other games too.

I think Stephen's suggestion (in a fork) to hide まとわり付く is sensible. I don't think it's worth adding restr tags just to accommodate a form that gets <10% in the n-grams.

I feel like the explanation of a KIntaro doll is really an explanation of the stereotypical attributes of Kintaro himself, not just of
dolls made to look like him, so it belongs in sense 1 rather than sense 2.

At the 「浦島太郎状態」 entry, Jim said this should probably be moved from enamdict, though I don't know if he still feels that way. Notable enough figure, like Kintarō.

P.S. Could one of the editors please add the macron to all of the x-refs? I don't want to spam the queue.

There's surprisingly decent usage of it on Twitter: https://twitter.com/search?q=エリエリレマサバクタニ&f=live. And that's in non-religious/non-film contexts too. Examples (from the past 5 days):

Hmm. Katakana transcription of a Biblical passage. Not really a Japanese term, despite Daijisen including it.
I'm inclined to push it to the name dictionary as the name of the 2005 film.
