I think that's going a bit too far. Daijirin has 3 ラップ entries; one for each of rap, lap and wrap. For "lap/ラップ" it has senses covering both the sporting "lap" and the finishing tool "lap". I think grouping according to the original term is OK, even if that term is polysemous.
