Comments: | Sorry to reopen this but I think 4 senses is excessive. The kokugos and JEs have at most three (modern) senses; some only have two. I got "emotive conviction" from Makino and Tsutsui's Dictionary of Intermediate Japanese Grammar. It has a good entry on this expression. |

Comments: | Daijr restricts the senses by kanji and I don't see any overlap between 沿う and 添う/副う. Meikyo has this helpful note on its 添う/副う entry: "4は、付き従う意に重点を置くときは「沿う」とも書くが、一般には「添う」でまかなう。「副」は1,4に使うが、まれ。" "4" and "1" in this note correspond to senses 1 and 2 respectively on our 添う entry. I'm seeing nothing that suggests 副う is used with the senses we have for 沿う. Based on Meikyo's note (confirmed by n-gram counts), the only amendment I suggest is adding sense 1 from 添う to this entry. |

Comments: | I've been aware of the colour scheme since my first visit to Japan in 1981. My point is that JR's decision to put the livery colour into the name of the place doesn't really relate to the English meaning. I don't mind adding literal translations of quirky terms, but one shouldn't go too far. I wouldn't add "[lit] little red" to 赤ちゃん, for example. |

Comments: | I agree that it is a half sentence, however it is the half that is never changed. The "kore ni" part in particular. It was in context where I would have expected "kyou no koto ni ..." or similar but it was the word "kore ni" which did not make too much sense. So it is a set phrase of aorts. I understand it's used by businesses to apologize to the customer, to say that today's experience was atypical, we'll do better next time. In addition, it is almost always followed by "mata" which was erased from the translation. I think keeping it would help. |
|
4. | A* 2019-08-15 00:49:45 Robin Scott <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | I really don't think this should be an entry. It's a regular use of 懲りる and entirely literal in meaning. Also, it's not a complete sentence. I would translate it as "Without being discouraged by this" or "Without letting this discourage you/him/her". Something always follows it. |

Comments: | It seems an odd way of saying it - 預託 doesn't usually mean consignment. 委託在庫 is more common, but I'm not sure it means the same. |

Comments: | My vote is to reject. There's probably no end to the quirky spelling variations we would have to consider adding if this went in. |

Comments: | We rejected うれちい which is more common. Unless we revisit these very marginal quirky versions, this one won't make it either. |
