Comments: | Thanks for catching that. I asked a native speaker to pronounce it for me, and she indeed pronounced it as Shimo-usa. It looks like JR East uses the macron in its romanization though (see linked article). Is it more important for us to be consistent with the official name or to be consistent with our romanization scheme? |
