Comments: | [uk]? Also, the kokugos/gg5 use 「現象」/ "phenomenon" to describe the first sense. Might be good for us to clarify that as well since our gloss is very matter-of-fact and a quick skim of jawiki informs that the cause is disputed. |

|
Comments: | The current version is from 2010, when Scott entered it and commented: "gg5's explanation is quite funny (an inaccurate)." No reference. So the dictionaries say it's the injury and Wikipedia concentrates on the mythical beast(s). Here's my version. Not sure an xref to 妖怪 is needed/appropriate. |

Comments: | I want to make the case for removing all mentions of "short scale" and "long scale" for numbers, and only presenting the short scale. In every English-speaking country in the world, modern English uses the short scale. Since most people are not familiar with terms "short scale" and "long scale", the practical effect of including both is that people who look up the word 一兆 will not know whether it means one billion or one trillion without counting the 0's in the numerical representation. Getting rid of the long scale representation will make JMdict more reflective of modern English, and easier to understand. If this change is accepted, I'll go ahead and change all the other entries as well. |

Comments: | Sorry for the repeat if you came across the other submission first, but if you came aross this one first then you will by this comment know that there is another similar submission. I came across the above and in view of your comments, noted below, I thought that I should let you know about this entry. Re: 出入国管理 【しゅつにゅうこくかんり】 (n) immigration control, you stated, "Why don't they just use "入国管理"? Not for me to say, but they don't. All the dictionaries, including the government's own "Standard Legal Terms Dictionary" say it's "immigration control", so who are we to argue? Coming the other direction, the リーダーズ+プラス EJ glosses "immigration control" as "(出)入国管理", among other things like 入国審査." If this entry should remain in the dictionary, then maybe a cross-reference between this and "出入国管理及び難民認定法 【しゅつにゅうこくかんりおよびなんみんにんていほう】 (n) Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act" could be included in order to avoid a misunderstanding. |

I agree it seems some establishments are using the term for a multi-item dessert extravaganza, but that really doesn't usually mean multiple dessert courses in English. Comments: | Sorry, I think I must have misread 過程. I googled to see if it might actually be used that way (despite of what's in daij) because I think I might have seen it used as such but it instead turns out it most commonly seems to refer to a multi-course dessert menu. I say "most commonly" but that's actually the only usage I found (though I didn't search that extensively), so I think it should come first. |
