|
Comments: | You need to be aware that the n-grams are cumulative. The 4-gram 風呂+に+入+る is embedded in occurrences of お風呂に入る. Given that お風呂に入る is about twice as common as 風呂に入る without the "お", I think this entry should stay the way it was. A case could be made for お風呂から上がる on the same grounds, although the expression is nothing like as common. |

Comments: | I think splitting into two senses might be best for clarity. It can refer to technological prowess (i.e. machinery) as well as technical prowess (for example of a figure skater's capabilities, one of the gg5 examples). We could do it as just one sense if we avoided the word "technological" in favor of "technical", I suppose. |

Comments: | Daijs does split, but its 1 and 2 seem to mean much the same thing to me. OK so during the Edo period and earlier there were eras whose start didn't coincide with the reign of a new emperor, but I don't think that's super relevant here. We refer to 元号 as "imperial era" pretty consistently across plenty of entries here. If the concept needs to be explained/have examples, it would be better to just xref to the gengo entry. |

Comments: | That said... I asked a native informant (Osakan in her mid-30's) and she agreed with the assesment that the two words aren't mere synonyms. 郊外 she equalled to 田舎 while 近郊 to her was just a question of distance, e.g. whatever's neae the city but not the city proper, for example. This kinda matches daijr's definitions. 郊外: 都 市の周辺にあって、森林・田畑などが比較的多い住宅地 区。 近郊:都市や町に近い場所。町はずれ。郊外。 It's a tricky line to draw though, as evidenced by daijr's ref to 郊外 in the 近 郊 entry. Prog also: 東京とその近郊 Tokyo and 「the surrounding districts [((文)) its environs] 東京近郊に in the suburbs of Tokyo/on the outskirts of Tokyo I'll tmake an edit to the 近郊 entry too to try and reflect this distinction too. |

Comments: | I agree こんにちわ can be considered an ik of "今日は". I think it makes sense to look at absolute numbers when deciding what to include as sk/sK (something that should maybe be discussed on the Github). I don't think it makes sense to add sk/sK forms that barely register in the ngrams (which we have been doing in some obscure-ish entries), but these misspelled forms (that I think used to be included in the こんにちわ entry or somewhere) do get a couple of thousand hits. I wouldn't mind excluding them but since removing them in the first place did meet with some opposition from Jim (IIRC?), I figured he'd want to include them now that we can do so pretty painlessly. |

Comments: | I think こんにちわ should be tagged as irregular. Also, given that こんにちわ is pronounced identically to こんにちは, I think we can consider こんにちわ a reading of 今日は (and therefore drop the [nokanji] tag). I don't think "used during daytime" note is needed. It can be inferred from the glosses. Do we really need こにちわ and こにちは, even as sk forms? Aren't they just typos? |

Comments: | Came for the kanji stats on [rK][sK]. (I am also suspicious about this being [news1] because this is *such* a common name. But it's still a fairly common word, so whatever I suppose...) Can't really compare the bare term because it's a common name. So I looked for some collocations. sankoku gives 並木, daijs gives only 並木. only nikk lists 並樹, which feels like a historic form. Yourei has 50 actual results with 並樹, so it exists. 73 examples of 並み木. 4,338 examples of 並木。 And yourei, if my gut feeling isn't off, seems a bit overrepresented with old text (for copyright reasons I imagine). On twitter, 並み木の下 has ~10 matches in the history of twitter. 樹木の下 actually gets a hit ~every other day. 並木の下 gets ~10 hits/day. Based on the somewhat surprising twitter result, I'd guess I'd lean [rK] for 並樹. Might be being used for "poetic" effect. Should probably be visible in a result if searched for. 並み木 feels like a perfect [sK] candidate. Rare, nonstandard only in furigana, shouldn't be learned, should be searchable... Wouldn't hate it though if 並樹 were also [sK]. Since I am here, also pluralized "roadside trees". sankoku: 通りの両がわに並べて植えた木. I don't think 並ぶ can apply to *one* tree. Actually specifies that both sides of the road must be planted. I think you'd have to contort yourself to point at one roadside tree, and say "that one tree there is a 並木". This ref also had it pluralized: 研究社 新和英中辞典での「並木」の英訳 なみき 並木 a row of trees roadside trees. |

They're talking about how things were, and how they have now changed into something else, e.g. one change, not how they are continually changing. |

Comments: | Thanks for the heads up on フォロワー/フォロ ー. I get your gripe, but I don't think this is just specific to twitter (I get hits for Instagram too). It's also potentially useful both for translators and Japanese users who are looking for a way to express this in English. It's also extremely common (I looked again just now and saw 10 tweets the past 10 minutes) and even if it were twitter- specific (like some of my other entry suggestions might jave been) it's not like twitter is some small random site only used by the dedicated few. |
