|
Comments: | Well, the point you are making is plainly wrong, "-chan" is clearly among the suffixes that "yobisute" indicates you're not using. Daijisen says "「君」「様」「さん」_など_の敬称" (my emphasis). Koj mentions 殿・様・さん・君. That doesn't mean we need to include "殿" or さま here, it's not an exhaustive list. The wording you're suggesting doesn't make sense to me either, "even '-sama'" seems to imply that "-sama" would be the least polite of the suffixes listed, when it's quite the opposite. |

"-chan" is totally out of concern of this context. Only whether addressing someone by "-san", "-sama", "-kun" OR NOT is the context of "yobisute". That is my point. |

Comments: | Just quoting GG5's subentry. I don't feel like justifying this any longer, and as Jim Rose points out, it has issues. |
|
6. | A* 2020-04-20 03:35:49 Marcus Richert <...address hidden...>
Comments: | "硬く" is just the adverb form of the 硬い adjective. We don't usually include these unless they are, for whatever reason, included in one or more major dictionaries. Also I still don't think this should be an entry. Like Jim Rose pointed out, it ignores the differences between the different kanji, and also ignores all other meanings held by かたくなる outside of "to become stiff". GG5 is often not the best guide for what to include, I think. No かたくなる is not an entry in daijs or daijr. (though 硬くなる alone is in nikk) |
|
5. | A* 2020-04-19 04:09:15 Jim Rose <...address hidden...>
Comments: | I read the comments posted when the 硬くなる、固くなる、堅くなる entry was differentiated from 硬い、堅い、固い. My questions: why doesn't the dictionary form occur in the dictionary? 固く is defined on EOW as 1) faithfully(約束する 2) fast(主義・主張・信念などが 3) rigidly(物の接合・固定などが whereas 硬くis defined as 1) harden(物を) 2) rigidize(材質などを) And 堅く seems to straddle both definitions: 1) firm 2) firmly 3) rigidly(態度が)〔【形】rigid〕 4) stiff 5) stiffly 6) stonily(人が石のように) 7) tight〈話〉 8) tightly My macintosh defines 固く • 硬く • 堅く as hard; [動かないようにしっかりと] firmly; [こわばって] stiffly; [すき問のないようにびっちりと] tight, tightly. Seems to me the most important entry, the dictionary root form, is the most important... might be two different entries (固く;堅く) and (硬く;堅く) and is missing. Not wanting to add anything until one of you thought about this. |

It might be a typo, but I thought I'd send this for editor analysis in any case, since I don't have the authoritative reference works available to me to check. |

Comments: | Doesn't seem to appear in major dictionaries, but listed many places as the fifth part of the 五色の金 from old Japanese along with the other colored kun-yomi metals: こがね, しろがね, あかがね, and くろがね, all included already. Most references seem to say あおがね refers to lead, some to tin, and a few to bronze (presumably due to verdigris). |

Refs: | I'm not sure it's entirely correct though, in light of the examples on yourei. I don't think "everchanging" is the best fit in any of these. They're talking about how things were, and how they have now changed into something else, e.g. one change, not how they are continually changing. |
