I think an overly elliptical style often makes entries harder to understand." I agree with Marcus. Our usual style (at least for the past few years) has been to include "of" for intransitive verbs/expressions. Sometimes it makes no real difference (as in "to be exposed") but often it does (as in "to leak out"), so for consistency's sake I think "of" should always been included. |

Comments: | Given the deliberately elliptical style that is common in dictionary entries, I don't think the addition of "of a", etc. is much help. "to be exposed (lie, improper behaviour, etc.)" and "to be exposed (of a lie, improper behaviour, etc.)" really mean the same thing. I'd always go for the shorter form. |
