Comments: | I found that last reference I mentioned (in regard to the collarbone area). It was in Wikipedia. http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/胸の谷間#.E3.83.87.E3.82.B3.E3.83.AB.E3.83.86 . Comments: | I think it's a fine line. The style we usually follow is that if an entry defines a state, then an adjective from it (e.g. adj-no) goes in the same sense. Now you are making it clearer that your sense 3 is more a clothing style, I agree it should go back. Originally (in French, etc.) décolleté applied equally to the back. I wondered about the application in Japanese of デコルテ, and looked at Google images. Mostly front shots, but there were some of bare backs too. I felt that "part of a woman's chest and back exposed ..." was pretty safe - it doesn't say how much of each. |

Comments: | There was a submission in 2005 to add 日付貴信. I can't find any discussion about it, but what went in was 付貴信. The pattern is usually seen in things like: "3月30日付貴信", but it really breaks 3月30日 + 付 + 貴信. We have 付/づけ as an entry for that usage already. The above note etc. may help, but I'm not sure it's a valid lexical item. |

Comments: | Dunno. I'm following the bit Rene wrote for the editorial policy: "For varieties, the abbreviation "var." must be used." I see that it's usually in the form "Brassica oleracea var. botrytis", and these dangling "var." are the minority. From what I'm reading about camelias these entries refer to different cultivars - there are really only two "vars". We'd better check with Rene - he's the expert in this field. |
|
4. | A* 2019-03-07 07:44:06 Marcus Richert <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | Normally in latin nomenclature you'd have the "var." bit followed by the name of the variety, e.g. something like "Camellia japonica var. kagurajishi", right? If we're using "var." to mean "variety of Camelia japonica", might it be better to phrase it like that? |

Comments: | Was checking ngrams on 椿 terms. This is an eminently obscure variety of ツバキ. Search "ハナグルマツバキ" in quotes, and all you get is ~6 和英辞典 entries and that's it. Search "hanakuruma camellia" and you get dictionaries. Search "花車椿" in quotes and you'll get mostly dictionary references, plus a handful of legitimate entries. I've included one such entry in the refs, which contains a laundry-list of random ツバキ flower varieties, almost all just as obscure as this one. I think it's reasonable to have a threshold for inclusion of flower names, and any threshold one might pick, this flower would fall beneath it. The alternative is to allow thousands of random flower names that don't do anyone any good. As a flower, this is also as close to A + B as one could get. This entry is literally "Flower Cart" + "Camellia japonica" = "Flower Cart Camellia japonica". This entry adds no information. What's particularly amusing is that we don't even have an entry for the real word 花車[はなぐるま] "flower cart". In tandem with deleting this, adding a 花車 "flower cart" entry would probably be more useful for everyone. Strong, strong recommendation to delete this one. |
