|
Comments: | I don't think it's just an approximation of "げんいん" but a different pronunciation, see the answers in the survey: 「自分の滑舌の悪さを感 じる」 Also the fact that people type it (and then leave it as hiragana, because they can't convert it properly) is another reason why I think we should include it. I think 全員 should also have a ぜいいん[ik] reading since it's high up in the list. If there's enough evidence of 店員, etc. being read as ていいん and so on then I think we should add those reading to those entries too. |
|
6. | A* 2019-03-30 02:42:11 Robin Scott <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | Isn't げいいん just an approximation of how げんいん is pronounced rather than an irregular reading? It's the same with 全員, 店員, 団員, etc. I don't see any evidence that it's a common mistake. Two of those links refer to the same incident. |

The term may be *the* example of a word-in-transformation in Japanese. I was *taught* to say "hwinki", in Japan, in a Japanese classroom, by a late-20s/early-30s Japanese teacher. The impression was that your speech would sound a bit stilted if you tried to say huniki. (perhaps like "whatcha doin?"/ "what are you doing") |

Comments: | i don't see what this adds. the note already explains the usage, and the "something" does not seem helpful on the first gloss because that sense is referring to emotions. e.g., "to show signs of being a sexual predator" would fit in under sense 1; however it should actually be sense 2 |

Comments: | I don't think "to represent a third party's apparent emotion" is entirely correct, but we might want to check with a native speaker. I'm under the impression that you can use it to describe the feelings of a second party as well, e.g. "お前、めっちゃ悔しがってるやん" or "お前、かな り欲しがってるじゃん" (both of these get a handful of google hits) _ Also I think sense 3 doesn't belong here because it's strictly about the たがる usage. I can't come up with any usage without た(い) with this meaning. |

I worked at a 研究所 20 years ago (http://www.aa.tufs.ac.jp/ja) and it was definitely けんきゅうしょ - the Director was called 所長/しょちょう. Probably safest to have both. |
