nikk 白人 素人 entry:
② (「白人(しろうと)」の音読み)

和漢雅俗いろは辭典 (1901) lists it

This (and 毛唐人) are kanji translations. The literal meaning might be "hairy foreigner", fine, but none of the yahoo dictionaries actually
define it as such (though Daijirin has an etymology note: "〔「毛深い唐人」の意という〕"). I think "damn Westerner" would be more apt.

This change brings it more into line with the Daijirin/GG5 entries. I take the point about rolling sense 3 into sense 1. I guess it works.
6. A* 2019-02-28 20:57:43
  Comments:
Including (and leading) with just "house" is wrong.

Looking at the various dictionaries on the Yahoo site, none has "house-like building" as a separate sense. I think it's definitely part of
sense 1 and I don't think "house" absolutely has to be a dwelling either ("house of prayer", "movie house", "the local fish house", "a
house of prostitution" - all examples from English dictionary entries for "house") but either way it's definitely not a separate sense.

According to some of the sources I found, "isolated house" really means
that the house is in a place where there aren't any other houses at all
– not simply separated by a few metres from the neighbours like your
house, Jim :-)
.
For example, Meikyo says:
1) あたりに家がない所に、一つだけぽつんと建っている家。「野中の一軒家」
2) ...
3. A* 2013-07-06 11:15:10  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>

長屋 is not really an antonym.
I think "building resembling a house, ...." is really another sense.
Splitting off "isolated house" into its own sense seems odd to me, but then I live in an environment where all most houses are detached/isolated.

I read this in a Japan Society handout; but that does not mean accuracy of usage.

As to the Google references, there were many examples of the form which I gave. I could copy a selection if you would wish.

I wondered if the reading [also picked up on the Google search] is the clue to usage. If the "間" were to be read as a stand alone contribution to the sentence, then in that case would the "ま" be the appropriate usage?

"The mineral with this chemical composition was described by Nambu et al. (1969) and named kôzulite for Shukusuke Kôzu (1880-1955),
Japanese mineralogist, Tohoku University. The original publications was without proper structure refinement, which was not prepared
until 2010 by Barkley et al. (2010).

Kôzulite was included in both the 1978 and 1997 amphibole nomenclature, but was discredited as a root name in the 2012 amphibole
nomenclature, where the mineral was renamed mangano-ferri-eckermannite."
