I could copy a selection if you would wish. I wondered if the reading [also picked up on the Google search] is the clue to usage. If the "間" were to be read as a stand alone contribution to the sentence, then in that case would the "ま" be the appropriate usage? |

Comments: | The term "dietary veganism" is used to differentiate people who merely follow a vegan diet from those who avoid animal products altogether. In other words, it specifically excludes ethical veganism. 絶対菜食主義 does not; it was coined as a translation for "veganism", which is often (or usually) assumed to mean "ethical veganism" because most self-described vegans avoid animal products such as leather. I don't think dietary veganism should be a gloss, and I probably shouldn't have added it to 2840311. |

Refs: | https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/veganism -> "the practice of not eating or using any animal products, such as meat, fish, eggs, cheese, or leather" |
|
Comments: | This Japanese word specifically refers to eating. English dictionaries, when defining "veganism" either define it as the Cambridge Dictionary did above, or present two senses: (1) not eating animal products; (2) lifestyle centered around not using animals. In any of those cases, it makes this entry either incorrect or ambiguous, at best. I simply don't understand what value is lost by adding "dietary" in front of this gloss. |
|
6. | A* 2020-04-25 02:48:46 | |
Comments: | How is it "technically erroneous" or a "misconception"? "veganism" isn't a technical term. who decides what veganism refers to? a group called "the vegan society", the person who first coined the word, or English speakers in general? I agree "dietary" is distracting. |

Example sentence in the コンピューター用語辞典 (weblio): "歪み対称群という用語を導入し、アファイン変換下の2次元壁紙群のための完全に理論的な取 り扱いを提供する。 We introduce the term skewed symmetry groups and provide a complete theoretical treatment for 2D wallpaper groups under affine transformations" (this usage does not seem to be geology-related) Mentioned here: http://faculty.ms.u-tokyo.ac.jp/users/urabe/pattrn/Pattern2.html (page won't load for me, but this is in the Google description: "英 語では wallpaper group つまり壁紙群と言います。" |

Comments: | Nicolas, I want to thank you for all your submissions, but could you maybe try and provide more sources than just Wikipedia articles in the future? It would make our job a little easier. Policy: http://www.edrdg.org/wiki/index.php/Editorial_policy If the reference includes a Wikipedia article, quote the URL. Please note that a Japanese Wikipedia article by itself is not necessarily a good source for a dictionary entry. Some articles are simply translations from an English page and not evidence that a term is in use in Japanese. Sometimes an article only covers one aspect of a term's usage, and there are other senses which need to be covered. It is best to check the term in other sources and state that in the References section. |

Comments: | In general I'm not a fan of hyphens in romanized terms. They can get confused with 長音. While I don't have a problem with this one, if we go that direction we should do the same for all of the temple entries, and there are masses of them. Then there's all the ,,ike, ...san, ...kawa, ...toge, etc. etc. Do they get changed too? |
