Yes, it's just a colloquial (usually spoken) form. The い -> え conversion can be done with any i-adjective. Our policy up to now has been not to include these forms, with the exception of すげえ.
I wouldn't object to adding some of the more common ones as search-only forms.

I think we have to regard it as a case of the writers of those works playing with words. Perhaps they found せんぷう or つむじかぜ too long. Maybe they meant かぜ to be an abbreviation. I don't think we can add かぜ as a reading here.
