Refs: | Tanaka: きのうウィリアムズさんとかいう人が訪ねてきました。A Mr. Williams came to see you yesterday. |
|
Comments: | Looks good. My only concern is the rather common use of it to announce people. 7 of the 67 indexed Tanaka sentences have this pattern and while it sort-of fits into sense 2 with its "a (certain)", it's not really "hearsay or unconfirmed information"; it's more a formula used in such situations. I wonder if the sense can be tweaked a little to reflect that usage? |

Comments: | These are all the senses in the kokugos. Sense 2 and 3 are really the same sense, but "I hear that/rumor has it", etc. only work when the sentence *ends* with とか (as in the examples in Nicolas's link) which is why I've kept them separate. Sense 4 looks similar to sense 2 except that it's not used for hearsay. Only daijs and meikyo have it as a separate sense. Daijr has a note about it. |

Comments: | Yes, 石鹸玉 is quite an outlier, and as the n-grams show, it's quite possibly often せっけんだま rather than しゃぼんだま. That said, I'm seeing some images of soap bubbles labelled 石鹸玉, as well as cases where they are plainly soap balls. What I suggest is adding a new 石鹸玉/石けん玉/せっけんだま entry with two senses: soap balls and soap bubbles, with the bubble sense xrefed to here with a note like "occ. read しゃぼん玉". Would that work? |

Comments: | relatively speaking, this form is extremely rare (~0.1%). in addition, google image hits for 石鹸玉 are mostly *not* of soap bubbles, but of soap balls or seemingly irrelevant things, so it is arguably not that common absolutely either. further, there's no indication how often 石鹸玉 is expected to be read as シャボンだま without providing furigana. i'm inclined to reject |

Refs: | https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10BASE5 For its physical layer 10BASE5 uses cable similar to RG-8/U coaxial cable but with extra braided shielding. This is a stiff, 0.375-inch (9.5 mm) diameter cable with an impedance of 50 ohms, a solid center conductor, a foam insulating filler, a shielding braid, and an outer jacket. The outer jacket is often yellow-to-orange fluorinated ethylene propylene (for fire resistance) so it often is called "yellow cable", "orange hose", or sometimes humorously "frozen yellow garden hose".[3] 10BASE5 coaxial cables had a maximum length of 500 metres (1,600 ft). Up to 100 nodes could be connected to a 10BASE5 segment.[4] |

Comments: | I think it should be included. Along with どころではない, it is common, in many examples, meaning not obvious, etc. They could be combined, although it would be messy. Certainly, the glosses should be aligned - Nicolas used the ones from どころではない. We already have それどころじゃない/etc. We don't need both. If this goes ahead I think それどころじゃない can be dropped. |
