Comments: | Isn't "造語成分" just how Shinmeikai labels its kanwa entries, which means we can (mostly) ignore them? I think we're making an exception for country names because they're useful to have. What's confusing is how the kokugos classify them; there's no consistency. According to daijr, 加 (Canada) and 葡 (Portugal) are nouns but 米, 豪 and 印 aren't. Some don't even have a kanwa entry (e.g. 希 - Greece). I'm not sure any of them can really be considered nouns, but if we're going to include 英, 米, 仏, etc. in the main dictionary, we should probably include all the kanji country abbreviations that aren't totally obscure. |

Comments: | as 造語成分, 土[と]=つち. but not as a noun, which is what we currently have sense 2 as. 造語成分 are generally a mess. if と is split out, should we include the earth sense there? if not, what justification do we have for including some but not all of its 造語成分 meanings? rather than make entries for 造語成分, we should consider merging in kanjidic. that's basically how the kokugos handle it. i'll submit a separate と entry for now |

Comments: | the problem is technical and has to do with the way that edict is sorted (or so I've surmised) ascii characters are sorted earlier than ' ???' which is the placeholder for the edict header if an entry that starts with ascii characters is let in, the following file breaks: ftp://ftp.edrdg.org/pub/Nihongo/edicthdr.txt (or at least it used to; I've seen it break because of ascii once before) |
|
2. | A* 2017-01-16 18:29:41 Scott | |
Comments: | Comment on use of full-width: It's actually written Zipドライブ on many web sites. Edict policy is to use full-width alphanumeric characters, or 全角, I believe (can't find it in the help file, which is probably something that should be corrected btw). I wonder if maybe we shouldn't have both since actual Japanese usage on the web seems to be converging towards "Western looking letters" (Don't know if it's technically "半角" or unicode or whatever). This could be brought up on the mailing list if deemed important enough. |
