I thought it was our policy to only use id on expressions (see comments on 狼煙, 月並み, 電池切れ).
The vast majority of those 218 entries are expressions that end with nouns. There are several on that list (e.g. 波, 空気 難民) that I would definitely not consider idioms.

We have 218 entries with n+id tags, many 
of them compound nouns like this one. If 
we want to discuss changes to a large 
amount of entries, the mailing list is 
porbably the place for it.

I wouldn't consider "Christmas cake" a "group of words". It's a regular noun, and I don't believe nouns (by themselves) can be idioms. "Fruit cake" (meaning "eccentric person"), for example, isn't an idiom, but "nutty as a fruitcake" is.

On reflection I don't think this one is likely to be "id". I'll close it.

I agree there probably is an argument for dropping the id tag.

i agree that this should not be marked as an idiom and we have had some short back and forths and compound nouns being idioms in the comments of various entries, but i agree that this should be raised on the mailing list

we should also consider what value the [id] label actually has.  since people can disagree on what an "idiom" is, it's not clear why we even need this tag.  it is usually pretty clear when a gloss does not match the literal meaning of the individual terms. i'm not sure why we need to tell people "this is an idiom" or not.  to my knowledge, i've never seen another kokugo, english dictionary or J-E that bothers with an idiom tag

Possibly should have an lsrc, but I doubt it's needed.

I think this is the best approach.

Given that いちば is always a physical market, and しじょう is usually "market" in the abstract sense, I think it's best to keep the entries separate and add a new sense here that points to いちば.

I could live with a single entry provided it was clear that things like "futures market" 
were usually しじょう. I feel that two senses is the way to handle it. The JEs have two 
entries, with fairly distinct glosses.

any thoughts about merging this with いちば with a note?

at a minimum, i suggest copying the news tags in from there because it's quite likely that this entry is the source of most of those hits

I think 2011 is too recent to considered "dated". To me, "dated" suggests that it hasn't been commonly used for at least a couple of decades.

It just looks odd to me as a JE entry. It's not a Japanese custom (the jwiki article is a direct translation of the English version), and if someone doesn't understand 濡れＴシャツコンテスト from its parts, they're probably not going to understand "wet T-shirt contest" either.

primarily means "matter" as in "affair", but gakken also has it as "matter" as in "material"
