Comments: | I thought it was our policy to only use id on expressions (see comments on 狼煙, 月並み, 電池切れ). The vast majority of those 218 entries are expressions that end with nouns. There are several on that list (e.g. 波, 空気 難民) that I would definitely not consider idioms. |

Comments: | We have 218 entries with n+id tags, many of them compound nouns like this one. If we want to discuss changes to a large amount of entries, the mailing list is porbably the place for it. |
|
6. | A* 2019-12-26 21:46:29 Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
Comments: | I wouldn't consider "Christmas cake" a "group of words". It's a regular noun, and I don't believe nouns (by themselves) can be idioms. "Fruit cake" (meaning "eccentric person"), for example, isn't an idiom, but "nutty as a fruitcake" is. |

Comments: | I thought it was our policy to only use id on expressions (see 狼煙, 月並み, 電池切れ). The majority of those 218 entries are expressions, but there are a lot on that list (e.g. 波, 空気 難民) that I don't think are idioms by any definition. --- I agree there probably is an argument for dropping the id tag. |
|
8. | A* 2019-12-26 23:00:01 Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>
Comments: | i agree that this should not be marked as an idiom and we have had some short back and forths and compound nouns being idioms in the comments of various entries, but i agree that this should be raised on the mailing list we should also consider what value the [id] label actually has. since people can disagree on what an "idiom" is, it's not clear why we even need this tag. it is usually pretty clear when a gloss does not match the literal meaning of the individual terms. i'm not sure why we need to tell people "this is an idiom" or not. to my knowledge, i've never seen another kokugo, english dictionary or J-E that bothers with an idiom tag |

Comments: | The 日本化学会 proposed in 2015 to use「貴ガス」in textbooks, in line with the 2005 recommendation of the IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) to henceforth use "noble gas" in English. In light of the recommendation, is the [oK] tag on 「貴ガス」 still valid, or should it be used instead for the other 2 forms 「希ガス」、「稀ガス」 ? |

Comments: | It's hard to find an informative source on this word. A lot of hits come up when you search "レッツラゴー 死語", and the most common etymology traces it back to a pun on the title of the 70s manga レッツラゴン, so it's probably safe to say it's from the 1970s. |

|
7. | A* 2019-12-26 22:14:52 Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
Comments: | I think 2011 is too recent to considered "dated". To me, "dated" suggests that it hasn't been commonly used for at least a couple of decades. That being said, this is definitely a 死語 (and was never particularly common to begin with) so maybe obs or obsc is appropriate here. --- I think Jim might be waiting until he adds more field and dialect tags. |

Comments: | "ktkr" seems to be Japanese net slang. It's an abbreviation for 来たこれ. I came across it in a song. See links. This site would not let me put "ktkr" in the "kanji" section, but you want to be able to match "ktkr" as a Japanese word and list "きたこれ" as the pronunciation. |
