I'm going to reopen this. There's a big difference between being a 1) nobleman - a person part of the nobility who in most cases held
little power, and 2) being a "powerful Japanese feudal lord" who "ruled most of Japan from their vast, hereditary land holdings" (enwiki).
The meaning is different enough to qualify splitting in both Japanese and English. If the two meanings in English look too similar, that
can be handled by making them more different

This isn't some obscure little historical issue but the word is used with both meanings today. If somebody looked up the use of "tonosama"
in hyakunin isshu decks (for one example of contemporary use of the word in the Heian sense meaning) and walked away with the
understanding that the "tonosama" cards of those decks depict "powerful feudal lords", then we've done them a disservice.

  Comments:
The 日本化学会 proposed in 2015 to use「貴ガス」in textbooks, in line with the 2005 recommendation of the IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) to henceforth use "noble gas" in English. In light of the recommendation, is the [oK] tag on 「貴ガス」 still valid, or should it be used instead for the other 2 forms 「希ガス」、「稀ガス」 ?

I can't see the difference between these senses. Daijirin has two, but the second seem to be an archaic version of the first. GG5 has only one sense.
I think if we can't make it clear as to how they differ, we'd be better sticking to one sense.

ngrams search doesn't work for 人に7癖、我が身に8癖, but both of the others get zero ngrams. google brings up a lot of hits from proverb dictionaries, but it doesn't seem that there's much else. given that the meaning is pretty obvious, i think it can be omitted. IMO, the only value here is the reading of 八癖
