Comments: | I think I probably agree about the hiragana; I'm not sure about the merge. To me, this seems sufficiently different from daijs's gloss for 島言葉[しまことば] to warrant its own entry. At a minimum, a merge would require clumsy explanatory notes. Sense 2 is the more interesting, less obvious one to me, so I don't know that it should go. (Although I have no idea how commonly it is used.) I mainly just wanted feedback on the translation because I'm not sure what 標準沖縄語に対して新造された語 means in this context. Newly constructed words (i.e., neologisms)? Newer dialects? To me the main case for deleting sense 2 would be that I'm not entirely sure how best to translate it and I wouldn't want to provide an incorrect gloss. |

Comments: | I think this could be merged with the しまことば entry, maybe as a note: "also as シマクトゥバ in ref. to Okinawa". I think "island language/dialect" is an OK gloss for シマクトゥバ just as with しまことば. I don't think the 2nd sense is really needed, it seems overly granular and sufficiently covered by "island language". We usually include hiragana readings for okinawan words too (based on daijs doing it) - in the case of this particular word, hiragana alsoseems more common than the katakana. |
