This term has been in the news a lot recently. It appears that a キックバック is not necessarily illegal or illicit. Some politicians are in hot water over them, but their problem is that they didn't declare they'd received them. Subtle point, but it's probably best to drop that from the entry.

i'm not sure what to do about these, but i get the sense that these differ slightly in their usage, with しんぽく appearing to be a technical term specifically meaning "true north" (as opposed to magnetic north)

Unclear to me whether the two readings are restricted to the two different senses, though it certainly seems possible.

I also encountered しんぼく and しんほく but the former doesn't work in my IME (so it can't be awfully common) and the latter appears to be an anomaly.

  Comments:
I'd like to suggest splitting the senses according to the uses of に, so that each sense has a different meaning. "Anyone" can appear in positive sentences so I don't think a positive/negative split is the way to go.
For this proposed split to work, we'd need example sentences indexed for each sense, but I think this approach is ultimately clearer.
I should note that even with this split, a single sense may contain multiple meanings of に.

be that as it may, the current sense ordering seems logical to me. in aussie english, the most common usage of "legend" might be the "you're a legend, mate" sense, but i still wouldn't expect it to come first in a dictionary of aussie english

headwords and readings are generally ordered from most common to least common; that is not necessarily the case with senses.

Just a comment, that I will clear in a day or so....
Those "削り、歯" patterns are certainly very evident in straight WWW searches for "削り歯", however unlike Google's indexing of WWW pages, the n-grams do not bridge punctuation like that. The generation process involved breaking up text using punctuation, white-space, etc. as delimiters, then extracting n-grams from the resulting segments. See the README file at https://catalog.ldc.upenn.edu/docs/LDC2009T08/ for details. I followed the same procedure for the KM n-grams.
Of course the 削り歯 that were counted may have been cases where the punctuation was missing.
5. A 2019-10-01 22:36:06  Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>

i'm not sure i trust the ngrams. an actual google search for "削り歯 brings up lots of "削り、歯" false results

none of the refs provide a reading... no chance this is [io] for 削り歯 and is actually pronounced けずりば? that would be consistent with 削り節, etc.

You guys, not me, are the ones making a dictionary and it's in your
interest, not necessarily mine, that the dictionary is as complete as
possible. The way I see it, I'm doing you a favor by letting you know
that hey, this one common word is missing, you might want to include it.
Being met with a hostile sourpuss attitude because I didn't hand it to
you on a silver plate is simply unbecoming, especially when it would have
taken you 5 seconds of effort to realize it's included in other major
dictionaries. Apparently you (Rene) thought that time (and then some) was
wiser spent on "schooling" me. I get that this is a volunteer effort for
you too, but if doing even the minimal amount of work needed to confirm a
simple entry suggestion like this is a bother, then maybe you should ask
yourself why you've decided to take up lexicography as a hobby in the
first place.

yes, either we should abandon it entirely or figure out some way of automating the process. i suppose [n-pr] does sometimes add clarity to an entry, but overall my guess is that it is almost always obvious from the english gloss whether it is a proper or common noun. probably not needed since it was introduced late in the game, without ever broadly applying it

I feel this is worth letting through. もんじゃない/ものじゃない is very common, but its meaning depends on the context. In cases like 言うもんじゃない is means "shouldn't". The meaning of this construction isn't obvious (to me at least.)

分かったもんじゃない certainly stands out as a common use of the ~もんじゃない.

Feels too compositional to me. もんじゃない/ものじゃない can appear after all sorts of verbs.

I didn't propose a merge as the alignment with the kanji forms was messy and this is osb. I thought it better to keep them apart.

yes, and if there is a deficiency with the てごたえ entry, it should be handled by adding a third sense there if needed. i agree that this entry is unnecessary
5. A* 2019-10-09 04:48:55  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
For 手応え Daijirin and GG5 only have two senses. I think the 3rd sense here is really part of sense 2, but then I doubt it should be an entry at all.

  Comments:
This is a rather standard way of using 手応え, etc. and GG5 and the JEs have some examples of this and also 手応えがない, etc.
I don't think there's a good case for having this.
