ベニヤ [gai1] ベニア
1. [n]

History:
7. A 2021-07-14 01:09:12  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I felt that 1,000+ was probably enough for an "ik" entry, but on reflection, I think it could be a false positive from ...べ + ニア...
6. A* 2021-07-14 00:13:36  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I think べニア should be dropped as well. It's just a typing error, not an intentional spelling. Looks odd having it tagged as ik when it's visually almost identical to ベニア.

  Comments:
I've been mulling this over, and frankly I don't think it really is worth adding. We have
entries for 上位, 上流, 中産階級 and 中流階級, the combinations are obvious and relatively
uncommon. Readers-Plus has 上位中流階級 and アッパーミドルクラス for "upper middle class", but
that's really explaining the English phrase for Japanese speakers; not reflecting it's a
lexical item in Japanese.
I'll propose an entry for アッパーミドルクラス. I think that's common enough.

I don't think I've ever heard "upper middle class" used to describe cars. A Google search returns cars that people associate with upper middle class people.
In Japanese, however, it seems to describe the level of performance or luxury of a car (i.e. a grade below top class).
