Good approach, I think.
5. A* 2019-01-20 23:14:51  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
The commenter is saying that with our current glosses, 炎を受け付けません could be wrongly translated as "not withstand the fire" (the opposite of the actual meaning).
This is a tricky one because glosses like "bear" or "tolerate" are perfectly fine in other cases (e.g. "胃が弱くて, 油っぽい食物を受け付けない. My weak stomach won't take/tolerate fatty food.")
But in the commenter's example they're ambiguous. You could interpret "not bear the fire" as meaning either "not be exposed to the fire" or "unable to endure the fire".
The same goes for this sentence in GG5: "この新型の装甲車は通常の対戦車砲の弾などまったく受け付けない. This new armored car will completely withstand normal antitank weaponry."
I think having an extra sense is the way to go but it's probably best to avoid glosses like "to refuse; to reject; to resist" (that only work when the verb is the negative) because it creates confusion.
I've proposed a new sense based on the "to be affected by" suggestion.

  Comments:
Isn't saying that they'd *resist* the flames while they were petrified? This verb is often used in the negative to mean reject/refuse, e.g. GG5 has:
受け付けない 〔拒絶する〕 refuse; reject; turn down
I guess it's not clear that here refuse/reject/turn down/resist is the opposite of accept/receive/etc. We could have entries for 受け付けない and/or 受け付けません, or we could have another sense "(in the negative) to refuse; to reject; to turn down; to resist".
What do others think?

I have this game where a magician has decided to save everyone from burning to death by turning them temporarily into stone, and she explains why with this line:

「少しの間 石になっていてもらいます。
石になっている間は炎を受け付けません」

I believe the translations of sense 2 here are completely the wrong way around. You would get the impression that they would NOT withstand the heat when they are petrified. But this is of course the opposite of its correct meaning.

I don't know how to fix this.

I came up with "to be affected by" "to take in" but that's it.

I think we have to regard it as a case of the writers of those works playing with words. Perhaps they found せんぷう or つむじかぜ too long. Maybe they meant かぜ to be an abbreviation. I don't think we can add かぜ as a reading here.

It could be that this kanji also has a reading of "かぜ". See for example the titles of these works:

It's not colloquial, at least not any more than the adj-i sense is. I'm not really sure this entry should have two senses (in a
kokugo dictionary, it certainly wouldn't) as I think they mean the same thing in Japanese, only it doesn't work out quite that way
in English.

  Comments:
I think I agree with Rene's 5 year old view that this entry isn't needed - this is already covered by the なる entry. I'm not really
convinced it's helpful to beginners, either. If they need this type of guidance, I'd much prefer to have a note on sense 1 in the な
る entry reading something like "usu. as ...になる". With all entries like this one, the risk is also we lead beginners into thinking
the verb is "になる" rather than "なる" (sure, the entry is marked "exp", but if this entry is to help beginners who don't even know
the meaning of に, do you expect them to be aware of the finer points of our PoS tagging system?).
If we choose to keep it though, I can't really see why "becomes" etc. would be better than "to become"? They're essentially the same
but the infinitive form is how we usually gloss senses with a verb PoS.

Is sense 2 really needed? I don't doubt it's used with that meaning but to me it looks out of place here.
None of the kokugos deem it notable enough to include, and I'm sure the context would make the meaning obvious anyway.

Sorry, I can't find a single one :(
  Comments:
Terribly sorry but I can't find any references for this
or even know its meaning properly. However, if you use
an image search for this term, you receive zounds of
photographs of school students.

I have so far gathered that it is a multi-day sports-
themed trip made usually by koutou gakkou students.
They tend to wear tracksuits, but it is the whole school
year going, not just a sports club.

Here are pictures of one for a shougakkou 5th grade:
http://www.asahikawa-hkd.ed.jp/nishikagura-els/2014/07/post-26.html

That's about everything I have. I hope one of the dear
editors can make something out of this.
