たま・う【▽賜う・▽給う】
動五
終止形・連体形、ならびに連用形は、「たもう」ということも多い。その場合、現代かなづかいは「たもう」とするのが一般的。

shimeikai has no entry for たもう, but one example sentence for たまう is given as たもう
「神の与えたもうた試練」
  Comments:
yeah, this is a mess. e.g. koj has three separate entries (oubunsha kogo jiten has four) for:
--
たまう 【給う・賜う】
[1][v5u,vt][hon]
to give

たまう 【給ふ・賜ふ】
[1][v2h-s,vt][arch,hum]
to receive
*but it's also a v4h variant of the other たまう

たも・う 【給ふ・賜ふ】
[1][v4h,vt][arch,hon]
to give
[1][v2h-s,vt][arch,hum]
to receive

but the conjugations of koj's たもう don't match the conjugation of たもう in modern japanese (described by meikyo above). for modern japanese, we need たまう=v5u, たもう=v5u-s (but only conjugates as 終止形, 連体形, 連用形)

also, we generally don't give suffixes before the meaning of the standalone word, so the order should be swapped

See the discussion on 2840979.
I suspect the best solution will be to split the たまう and たもう versions of this and
related entries into separate entries with their distinct pos tags.
9. A* 2019-12-01 13:27:39  Dine2019 <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
Should we mark the たもう reading as not having a stem/ending boundary or conjugating? If we don't do so, some users or client software might
pronounce it as タモウ or conjugate it as たもいます / たもえ.

As far as I know, only some words have the cross-boundary reading giving rise to a new combination of stem + ending:
【言う】いう→ゆう→ゆった
【酔う】えう→よう→よった
According to this link, 給う isn't such a word:

許す	1235723	97.2%
赦す	34950	2.7%
聴す	410	0.0%
  Comments:
The case for revisiting this one is not strong:
- in usage 許す dominates
- the JE dictionaries only have 許す for ゆるす. GG5 has it for all its 7 senses
- the major kokugos combine all three kanji forms in single entries. Daijirin adds tags such as 《許・赦》 and 《許・聴》 to some of the senses but 許 is used for all senses.
We could add notes such as "occ. 赦す" to some entries, but given the low level of usage of the other two forms, is it worth it?

Your kanji dictionary, supported by the Unihan references
許 [Uni] 8a31 [音] キョ [訓] ゆる.す もと [英] permit; approve More kanji details
赦 [Uni] 8d66 [音] シャ [英] pardon; forgiveness

EIJIRO is not 100% unambiguous but favours 赦す for "to pardon" and 許す for "to permit/tolerate"
  Comments:
I was told by a Japanese NS that there was a significant difference between 許す, which has a sense of 許可する and 赦す, which has a the sense of 恩赦する, and your kanji dictionary supports that assertion. I wonder if this would not warrant creating separate entries for 許す and 赦す...

Likewise, 聴す seems to be totally different from the above two... maybe this entry could be revisted?

This is quite close to 腫れる – seems esp. used of “puffy face” (from exhaustion etc.), though it is also used in a medical context (esp. beriberi?).
Formally it seems more associated with fluid retention (several dicts mention this), rather than inflammation (from disease).

No evidence for ねね/ネネ used with these meanings. I think ネンネン and ネンネー aren't common enough to be included.
I don't think " (for a baby)" is necessary with the [chn] tag already present.
I don't think ねんね means "bedtime" - I think that'd be "ねんねの時間"

I was thinking a lot about this entry the day Abe was shot, when officially the "心肺停止" lasted for several hours. I can't be sure this entry was the basis for it but I saw his condition referred to as "showing no vital signs" in English-language media and I felt a pang of guilt as I wasn't really sure this was an entirely accurate description (after the 心肺停止 was first announced, he was flown to a hospital and had 30 or so liters of blood pumped into him, before they finally announced his death).

I'm wondering what other editors think, should maybe sense 2 be reworked into a note on sense 1?

Maybe just one sense with a "lit" translation would be best.

I glossed 16強/ベスト16 as "round of 16" and 8強/ベスト8 as "quarterfinals/quarterfinal round" because I think the actual use I've seen
of those words fit that translation, but looking at the daijs definition for this (and 8) I'm not so sure any longer if they should maybe
be glossed as "final sixteen"/"final eight, quarterfinalists".
